Morning All,
And a happy weekend to Ya! Just thought I'd pass along some good info and experience that I've had with my new amp. I purchased a Rebel head about 4 mos. back after dumping a Fender Hot Rod that had been giving me fits for over a year with tube issues. Might I say, what a GREAT choice on my part! I've got it running through a 212 cab w/ Celestion V30's.
Short of having Reverb, ( which I picked up a great Digi-tech Hardwire one) this thing does everyhting the Hot Rod could AND MORE. I could go on and on , but to why I originally posted,... At first , like most who have this model, I wasn't satisfied with the stck mix of tubes that came with the amp. So, a change was needed. With help from Bruce at Egnater, I picked up some premium tubes and he helped me with the biasing procedure.
One small note here, I spoke to him on the phone , voice to voice, around Christmas week!
Coolest, patient, and helpfull person around!!! So professional and makes you feel like a friend the moment you start talking to him....
Ok, to the mix.... I chose a Tungsol 12ax7 for V1...
V2 has a Penta Labs 12ax7 7025. V3 has another Tungsol 12ax7.
Power section: Matched set of medium Tungsol 6v6's and a matched set of medium Tad El 84's. Both of these were biased to the notations on the circuit board. 40 ma on the EL84's
and 45 ma on the 6v6's.
Perfect chime, clarity, clean..... great growling over-drive, and loves any pedal I've put in front of it. A great little "tone monster"! now. I'm gonna stop writing for now, but if anyone wants to chime in to get some more info out of me , feel free to reply here and I'll probably chat your ear off....LOL!
Jam on , people!

Very cool!

I wonder if the same tube formula and biasing could be applied to a Rebel 30. I have not yet biased an amp, but found some clear instructions. What meter would you suggest, and is this as easy as it looks?

I bet your Celestions make a big difference--I have a Rebel 30 112 combo that plugs into an extension cab with a Celstion G12H. The blend of speakers is so nice.

Wow, cool. Great info. If I get a chance I will experiment with that line up. Particularly the Tung Sol 6V6. Not thrilled with the JJ I put in there. I lean heavy on the EL84 side. On the biasing, just get any decent digital V/O meter. Radio Shack works just fine. It is extremely easy.
