Sorry if this is a stupid question, but....

I currently have an M4 loaded with T/D, VX, SL and EG3/4 modules. I really think I will want the COD+ when it makes it debut, but I would really like to stick with just 4 modules. So, what I am wondering is if the SL2 is flexible enough to be a good single module substitute for the SL and the EG3/4. I know that the EQ voicings and gain structures are different, I am not that naive, but I believe all 3 modules have a common tone ancestor, so would it be possible to get similar (not exact of course) SL/EG34 voicings out of the SL2?

I should note that I love the SL and the EG3/4, which is why I am hesitant to part with either, but as I said, I would like to stay with 4 modules (other than economic reasons, I just like having all of my modules loaded and ready to go without having to swap them out...)

Thanks in advance!

It really depends on just how gained up you are getting the SL. To me, the beauty of the SL is that glassy interaction with the power section when it's really cooking and also the ease with which it takes a fuzz (my fav is the Fulltone '69 - now discontinued). I tried to show the former in the SL clip I posted - no clips with the fuzz. Now, I think that the SL2 will NOT do the fuzz thing as the sensitivity is too high for it, but the A will get you close to this medium gain SL thing; however, it may feel somewhat looser. The SL2 takes charge of the tone more so that more of the perceivable colours seem to be coming form the pre rather than the power section in my oppinion - I am usually running the SL2 with gain at around 11:00 to 1:00. Yeah, just get the E2

Thanks for the info John. I typically don't run the SL with a lot of gain, usually not past 12 o'clock - that's my favorite part about that module - it lets my guitar do the talking, so to speak, and really brings out the differences in pickups and vol pot changes - it really "breathes". I guess my bigger question would be about the SL2 versus the EG3/4. I was torn between those two when I was deciding which modules to get, and I ended up getting the EG3/4 because it seemed to have a darker/smokier quality. But, I typically don't use a ton of gain on that module either, usually not past 1 o'clock on Ch A. So, I was wondering if the SL2 can be made more EG34-ish with some EQ adjustments, and on the flip-side, if backing way off on the SL2 gain, it could have some SL-ish qualities.

Thanks again,
Rick
