My New Pedalboard

We recently got hooked up with pseudo-endorsement from PedalTrain (thanks John!) so I decided to splurge for the Pro. Its a big board yes, but I have some room to add more toys (or 8 button E2 footswitch!?! ) and my stuff just wont fit on the standard PedalTrain. These things are really awesome and so clean with the pedal power mounted and all cables running underneath. I thought my last board was nicely put together, but this is really kick ass. Here are some pics:

Cool man. What's that little grey switch to the right? Also, are you running any of those pedals through the amps effects loop.

If you recall from a different thread, I've been thinking of going pedaltrain as well, but to build as smaller board than the one I currently have. We'll see.

The little grey switch is a mini True-Bypass looper, that the Digitech Whammy is in. I gave it to Matt.

That whammy is a MAJOR tone-sucker when in bypass. Not even a tone sucker. A Tone murderer. BUT... it tracks extremely well for octaves (better than the Boss OC2) and of course, the whammy functions.

Throwing it in a true-bypass loop keeps the signal pure when you're not using the Whammy.

Matt - youre welcome. I just saved you tons of typing. hahaha.

Yeah the true bypass loop is essential for the Whammy. Its one of biggest offenders of tone sucking out there. But damn is it a fun effect to have at your disposal.

I run the TimeFactor through the parallel effects loop of the MOD 50, which works really well.

Diego, I like the x2 alot. It really really close in sound and dynamics to a good cable. I guarantee 9 out of 10 people could never tell it was a wireless if you blind-folded them. Back in the day I used to have a Samson that was so bad I had to go back to the cable and I stopped considering wireless altogether until I read about the x2 on HRI. Those guys usually know gear and have good ears so I checked it out and I agree with them. Its damn good. I wish the enclosure was a little more rugged and wasnt plastic but as long as you dont through it around it should be ok. Ive been gigging mine for about a year.

It's funny that you mention the SAMSON wireless. I had one too, and it was a load of crap. I put in on eBay and it sold. But, I gave it a try before shipping it out and I ended up writing the customer and saying... Look, this wireless is piece of crap, I'm not shipping this to you. So I refunded his money and put the thing in the trash!

I had a Whammy too, but I sold it after 3 weeks cause I needed the money. I had a crappy amp back then so I never noticed the sucking, mainly because the amp was doing enough sucking by itself.

I'm in the middle of the True-Bypass dilemma too. You all know I'm in he process of upgrading my pedalboard and possible downsizing it too. I've picked up a few pedals to try out too.

I picked up a Keeley Compressor. If you recall the other thread, I was interested in one of the Barbers from one of the guys here. It sold before I could get it. But, the Keeley is awesome, I'm very happy.

I also picked up a Hardwire Delay/Looper and a Reverb. And... a MXR Carbon copy. I like the Carbon Copy more than my Ibanez AD9. So, that one's probably going...

MXR claims True Hardwire Bypass, but to me, that is probably not "true-bypass" Which has me ranting about the stupid terms some companies use to market their stuff. Read this thread for more on that...

I'll post some pics and clips once the board is done. Oh, and thanks Nick, for the contact info for Maxxplay. I'm getting a looper from him soon - for my bypass offending pedals.

just pounding through old threads trying to catch up.. why the x2, and bs2? is it the 'if x2 goes down?' plug in here situation?

The bs2 is in-line and on all the time. I have a pass through box under the x2 that I can plug a cable into pretty quickly if the x2 goes out. So its either x2 OR pass through box (we call it the "tone box"  ) at the start and then the signal path is the same.

ok.. just wondering cuz you really don't need to buffer the wireless signal..

Interesting! What is the disadvantage of doing so?

So Casey, you're saying that the Wireless unit is already buffered? interesting.

A few more tests need to be run to determine the real truth, but... at the gig on Friday. Matt's tone was kinda thin and harsh. Unplugged the wireless, and went straight in with a cable. Monstrous tone.

I don't think I'll ever fully trust a wireless system to give good tone, unless it costs like, over $1K.

I noticed during soundcheck that the wireless was running out of battery power so I switched to cable before our set and it did sound noticably better. But I have also done numerous tests in the past between x2 and cable and had virtually no audible difference or difference in feel. So Im not sure what the issue was. I have no doubt that this place has terrible power and my tone is always worse there than other rooms (regardless of cable or wireless). I also had much better tone at the gig the night before when I was running wireless.

SO....I think Nicholas wants to blame the wireless but I really dont think that was the issue unless it does a worse job on tone when the power is getting low.

I have had a Shure SLX4 for 2-3 years now and I can not tell a difference between a really good cable and my wireless. I do all of my recording / playing with it. A good wireless can be as good as a cable. I highly recommend the Shure SLX4.

Dont worry Eric. Nicholas is just scared to death of guitar technology. Two years ago I couldnt teach him what MIDI even stood for. Now he bought an amp that uses it to change channels.

Once they stop making cables he will use a wireless and proclaim how great it is.

Sorry Nicholas but I couldnt help it. You are coming around though. Two years ago if it wasnt considered "vintage" you would have said its pure garbage. But youve gotten much better.

In 5 years you will have a full rack setup.
