So before i begin i must state that i have had the chance to play a Generator 120 and was very impressed ( hence the reason i tried buying one from Revv ) and thought the quality was top notch.

So i ordered a Generator 120 mkII fully loaded with KT88's and 6L6's back around the first week or so of june and was told that it was going to take around 10 weeks before i would receive the amp. While i was bummed i felt it was worth waiting since i had enjoyed the Gen 120 i played earlier in the week before ordering. After submitting a down payment of half through paypal ( via gift ) i requested a invoice for my own purpose ( i'm paranoid ) and got no response. So i tried again and again and finally got a response on the invoice..... 7 weeks later ( which they finally sent ). At that point i was frustrated but brushed it off as them probably being slammed. After i received the invoice i replied by asking the status on the amp......nothing.

After waiting a few weeks more i decided to contact them to check on the status as it was past the original time stated........nothing. I left emails, phone messages and got nothing. I then waited till around the 12 week period and was fed up with the lack of contact. I called and surprisingly got Derek on the phone ( very nice guy ) and after explaining how frustrated i was i decided to cancel the amp order as it was still a few weeks out ( which he later called me back to say they could rush it to next week ). Now i don't know how you guys are but i'm a principles type of person. Honestly the time waiting wasn't the issue, it was the lack of contact with me for whatever reason. If i needed warranty work would it have been this kind of nightmare?

The reason i'm posting this is so anybody who might be thinking of ordering a Revv amp may have to deal with the same issues i did. I ended up getting my money back within minutes from Revv via paypal and ordered a new Friedman Butterslax ( always wanted that damn amp and with what happened my wife shockingly didn't care about the price ) I'm hoping i'm the only person who's had to deal with this with Revv but i have to say i'm honestly disappointed. My new Butterslax gets here end of next week and i'm counting the days till it gets here.

I dont get why you would pay by gift to an ampmaker. Doesn't he have a company?

Yeah that was strange to me too but it was a mistake on my part that i'm glad didn't become an issue later.

Lack of communication, especially when it comes to a customer who has already payed (or partially payed) is a huge pet peeve of mine, I'd have been pretty irked as well. that said, I'm glad you were able to get it resolved ultimately. Two big takeaways- you're better off paying the PP fee for the protection it provides, and anyone running a business would do well to avoid the bad PR a lax attitude towards answering customers creates. Sometimes this is going to mean talking to pissed off customers and/or giving them bad news, but ignoring them is only going to make things worse in the long run.

Thanks for the heads-up. The thing is that ordering amps or guitars rarely ever get delivered on time. I've dealt with some small builders who make incredible gear and have great reputations who just kind of suck at customer service. They're often late to respond to things, or don't respond to the first email for whatever reason. Some of them will pick up the phone, but after a while start ignoring your calls. One manufacturer was so late in delivering my order that he went ahead and gave me a much higher priced model.

I talked with a renowned amp builder once who said that he doesn't really like dealing with people because he's just the amp guy, but he reluctantly does it because he doesn't have staff to take calls. What kind of attitude is that? Well, what you're experiencing is also a symptom of greater societal problems. Customer service is a thing of the past these days. A lot of people hide behind a Facebook page instead of providing a phone number to reach them directly. I won't buy from someone I can't directly contact - especially if it's an expensive piece of gear.

Personally, if your account is accurate and you acted reasonably (it sounds like you did), then I think your situation sucks. I also think that they should have compensated you with a discount. You may have gotten your money back, but you wasted so much time and effort. Now you have to refocus on another sound you want and find another amp that will satisfy you. Revv should have done more, but it sounds like the typical way people operate these days. They don't ever get a sudden sense of urgency. If something fails then they're like "Oh well," but they RARELY ever go on a mission to make sure that their loyal customers are taken care of.

It's good that you told your story. Revv has generated some discussion around here. Unfortunately, I know someone VERY reputable who didn't think too highly of Revv. His opinion needs no validation, and he never really explained exactly why, but I think he just didn't want to sound like he was badmouthing anyone while at the same times giving me a heads-up. Your story does kind of set me on the side of doubt based on what I've already heard. I was also thinking of getting a Revv Generator 7/40. Now I'll rethink that.

Dude, my dealings with Bogner and Friedman have always been good. Bogner is especially quick in getting amps out. Mike Soldano is a great guy who doesn't mind spending time with you on the phone. There's a reason why the well-established builders are legends in their industries. Perhaps you should consider getting a custom amp from a great builder so the wait and delays will be worth the time and effort.

Man that's too bad, I had high hopes for their products, but that sounds very sketchy

That's too bad. Derek and I have spoken a handful of times and he seems like a square cat in my chats with him.

Sorry it didn't work out but you'll love the Slax for sure.

It's amazing how responsive they are in the courtship phase of the order and then.....silence ..worst part is they make you feel wierd about contacting them ...glad you got it sorted out and the slax will be killer

I had a similar experience. I chalked it up to busy with tax time orders. My initial inquiry was really fast and literally got a reply every 5-10 minutes when I was getting my order situated. I sent my payment for the deposit and then the responses literally stopped. I sent a couple hey can I get a receipt at least? It was not until I went to website again and started another inquiry that I got a response. They almost met the time to deliever the amp but then "issues" came up on why the amp had not shipped now after the fact that I paid in full. I sent a couple of emails asking for tracking information and no responses yet again. I sent another inquiry and said nvm on the amp, just send me a refund. Hour later magically I get a tracking number and an email apologizing for the miscommunication. I got a couple of shirts for free for my trouble and stickers so I just let it ride since hey it's small business, they might be getting there ducks in a row.
During this time, a fellow rigtalk member ordered one as well so we kept checking with each other if we got some sort of response or activity on our builds just to be more calm lol. He had the same experience and got his amp a week or so after I received mine. Believe me, I have gone through a lot of amps and this one is a really special amp, but until they straighten out there customer service with response time and communication I fear it might hinder them from being reallllllly successful. For a while I was freaking out thinking I got scammed but it all worked out at the end. I was at the same point as the op and had the Butterslax sitting in my cart to order once I got confirmation of my refund.
The Generator is a really cool amp and I hope they straighten out the customer service so more people can enjoy there creations. I love the amp but it's hard to recommend now seeing as this is maybe the 3rd or 4th experience I have read online like this.

Damn this sucks. I'm saving up for a Revv and now I'm thinking of going another route, or wait for a used one to pop up.

The reality is there are ten's of thousands of people standing in line to send Revv $3000 USD for an amp, so they don't really need any single amp order to stay in business........

That's sarcasm on the internet BTW....

Weak....... don't worry though. The butterslax will smash some GAS.

From my experience, it's pretty much all the same. The time frame for mods or custom builds are always delayed by a lot more then expected. But in that case, the lack of communication after paying is definitely a lack of respect to the customer. Sorry to hear that.

On a side note, how does the Revv Generator 120 sounds? I saw somewhere that it supposedly sounds between a 5150 and a Uberschall.

I'll add my experience:

Called three times and left voicemail saying I was interested in an amp.

Never got a return call...

Not a good way to do business

Small amp builders that ignore the little guy will eventually beg for their business. They'll be more amp builders that Merrow and Fluff will endorse in the future and the used market will start to hurt the sale of new amps as well. Revv better be nice.

Wow, thanks for all the support guys, glad to hear i'm not crazy for being upset over the lack of communication. It's sad seeing people here who have had similar issues to what i had. Maybe Revv can fix these issues and come back from it.

Yeah, it will also smash your bank account.

I checked out some videos for the old "Slax" on YooToob. I'm not impressed. Especially for the ridiculous amount
of money they want for it. Slap the "Friedman" name on it, and it turns to gold? I like the BE100, but jeez.
I haven't seen or heard ANY amp yet, that is truly worth a $4,000 pricetag. Not one.

I guess you guys feel different. Because someone is buying these things! :scared:

I could see how you feel that way. I had a chance to play one locally and the only sound clip i heard that even remotely sounds like what it did in person was posted by errrrrl ( https://soundcloud.com/faka-894685110/f ... th-ir-test ) I have no problem slapping down the money on gear that i feel is worth it's price, but i think everyone judges value differently.
