I'm having problem with my Mesa TOV, and I'm hoping maybe some one could see what's wrong with it by looking at some pictures. When I turn on the amp, I get tone for about half a second then it cuts off to a crackling whisper. It can barely be heard if I dime the volume. It doesn't matter what channel I'm on.

All tubes are glowing, channel switching still works. I've tired other tubes and checked the fuse.

Can anyone see what could be wrong with my amp, and can anyone tell if I have the are LDR's either the VACTEC or SILONIX?

Oh, I almost forgot. When I had been using it, it would SOMETIMES make a pop sounded when I switched channels.

Not seeing anything immediately visible. Have you tried plugging into the loop return and testing your signal?
You have vactec ldrs.

I'm about to do that now.

Ok, same results. VERY VERY low volume if I dime the out put. Dropping a coin on a wood floor makes a louder sound than my amp does with the out puts dimed. I want to give you an idea of how low the volume is.

Have you checked the screen grid resistors? Tremoverbs are infamous for problems starting there.

Can you see the screen grid resistors in the pictures? I have the amp (combo) closed back up already.

UPDATE::

I let the amp sit on stand by for 10-15 minutes, plugged into the front, same results. Plugged in to the RETURN, and I got good clean tone. What gives??

Screen grids not visible - first thing I looked for as all 2 channel rectos have issues w/ them. Besides, they could be bad but not visibly bad - you need to measure them to be sure.

Use some contact cleaner on your loop jacks and see where that gets you. If that doesn't solve it then you got issues in your preamp which is going to more than likely take a multimeter to sort out.

I had a tech come over to my place last night. He opened up my amp and used contact cleaner on very thing and it's working like it used too. I can't believe that's all it took.

That was it! Thanks Jim
