Here’s an Mzero that came in for some tightening up.

Very cool amp. The circuit is almost identical to an SLO. These use carbon composite resistors throughout, which have more of a vintage feel and sound, to me. It took a lot more to get the bass tight than it does in an SLO.

Great build quality and a good platform for the mod. It’s got some serious clank to it now. And still supports a wide range of gain.

Owner also wanted the channels switchable without the foot switch having to be inserted. So I installed a push pull bass pot to switch the channels.

I couldn’t get super loud in the room but it gets even better turned up more. This packs serious volume.

Sounds so good! Now I need to hear your take on the 200w apocalypse!

I’m really interested to hear that one in person. I wonder how tight it’ll actually be. This Mzero was very loose in the bottom end. Which isn’t wrong or right, just not what I prefer personally.

What about simply using a boost in front of it to tighten it up?

Yep, the roundness to the low end was just a killer for me. Could never dial it out but I could dial it out on my SLO, glad to know I was not crazy. Couldn't even dial it out with a boost or eq. This is a cool mod because those amps are works of art.

I used to own an Mzero years ago. I had the same experience. I couldn’t get the low end tight, even with multiple different boosts.

It's always hard to tell from videos, but reminds me of a KSR Juno.

I'm not in the market for this so it is just more of curiosity question but can you tighten an amp without changing the core tone at all?

Hard question to answer. I think it’s a subjective opinion. By the very nature of tightening, you’re changing the core tone. Of course, the objective is always to retain as much of the original sound while getting the response more dynamic and tight.

I will not mod my SLO, I will not mod my SLO...
Sounds killer.
Actually, I do want to add a nfb pot to the SLO. One thing the Mezza has that I wish I had on the SLO.

I add a 3 way depth frequency switch and NFB control on the back of the new SLO’s. No drilling required. I use the line out holes. Very useful. The NFB is a great addition.
