Well guys ,I need some help from you that know.I was getting pissed at my sound with my 100wt Einy.I currently run new mullard el-34"s,only 2 cause don't need the volumeLoL.Had Tong-sol in V1 & V6 and JJ ec83 in the rest.Too my surprise I put china 12ax7 back in V2-V5.Wow got my gain spankin.LoL guess Pappa knows best.Been into the Early VH sound lately, was gonna buy a modded Marshall. With current tubes Chann 1 position 3 is getting Close. My Question is:What position i.e. V1 etc shapes tone most.Dues?C-4?.Second what brands of Nos are growly?Telef,Mullard,R.C.A.Thankx for any input, crazy old tone freak.

Sorry, I´m not a big light when it comes to NOS tubes.

I have an Einstein combo 50 watter. After 2 years, I switched to JJ KT77's when I first re-tubed the power tubes at Olaf's suggestion, and then started playing with various NOS preamp tubes.
My tubes of choice are Telefunkens, Mullards, RFT's, Phillips, Mazda, Radiotechnique, Bugleboys, and Brimars.

Each puts out a slightly different tone, but smoother and sweeter then the new preamp tubes.
I change up the V-1, V-2, and V-3 slots every now and then to try something slightly different in how the amp is voiced.

Lately, I have a NOS Telefunken in V-1, which adds a touch of sparkle, and two NOS Mullards in V-2 and V-3. I am however, using 12AT7's, not 12AX7's. With these tubes, I can turn up the gain more on each channel and still retain clarity in the notes and get a violin-esque singing tone, roar, and tone that I prefer. It is similar to Clapton playing Crossroads on the original live recording released as a single in the late 1960's.

The amp has the stock V-30 Celestion in it from Diezel. I am using an XOX Audio Tools Handle carbon fiber guitar, which has a truly organic and woody sound to it. Nothing plasitc or synthetic sounding at all. The guitar is fitted with DiMarzio PAF Pro pickups.

My Schmidt has the stock tubes from Diezel in it, whatever they are, and has a terrific sound. I am guessing that Peter fitted it with 6L6 power tubes and Chinese preamp tubes. However, since the Schmidt does not get the really super distortion that the Einstein gets, I can turn up the volume on channel one, and volume and gain controls to 3 o'clock on channel two, and use the gain on channel 3 set to 2 o'clock, volume at 3 o'clock. The amp gives me everything I want from an amp set that way. All EQ dials are at 12 noon. The Schmidt is just loud enough, using the Diezel 2x12 TT ceramic hemp cab, to play unmic'd with my 5 piece band. I never us a mic on my Diezels anymore, as the compensated out is every bit as good as micing the amp.

Depending on your taste in clean and saturated tone, you can re-voice any Diezel amp to your taste easily as the amps all take different preamp and power tubes very well, changing up the voicing of the amp.

I hope this helps you out.
Stephen
