Picked up a used 20th Shiva with EL34s' last weekend for a price I could not refuse. I remember playing one in a store with KT88s' a few years back and loving it, the white tolex put me off a bit. Any how it got the amp and cab for less than the price of new head, and it sounds really sweet, I mean this amp is just glorious, I love the tolex too. It's a great addition to the 100B.

+1.

I loved my Shiva 20th. Fantastic amp.

Congrats! I love my Shiva too. Always finding new tones in there.

Nice pickup. I had a 20th Shiva that I really liked, but sold. (Couldn't justify after extensively A/B'ing with the 20th XTC). You may want to try KT88's in there. It should give a little more punch and openness.

Thanks for the tip, I do remember the K88 version I played sounded great.

The 20th Shiva sounds more open than the 20th XTC. I hated the KT88s, so I run JJ E34Ls and they rock.

The amp is bright so I am replacing one or both of the V30s in my Bogner 212!

Not really. They're both pretty open sounding, as long as you go with the manufacturer's stock power tube choice. 34's get too compressed, boxy and sluggish for me in the 20th series. The compression kills it for me in a band mix and the dynamics are reduced. This is a big reason why I got annoyed with the 101b.

You said you were going to sell it and get a Satriani JVM. :D

I hear ya bro! All my amps have EL34s, it is all I will use. I hated the KT88 20th versioon. :)

I NEVER said that. I said I was thinking of selling the PWE. At this point, I can't see selling anything. I can afford what I want so I would rather just keep collecting amps through the years.

I did try EL34's for a few months and liked the tone, but just missed the big fat lush sound ok KT88's so I switched back. The amp has more headroom and more punch. I have too many EL34 amps. The conversion is super easy with a resistor change.

OH and another big reason I switched back to KT88's is that the amp just burned through EL34's like a meal (about every 6 months) and I even bias's the 20th a little cool. But to tell you the truth there's not THAT much of a difference in tubes when your jamming.

A 20th Shiva is gonna sound like a 20th Shiva regardless unless your playing different kinds of speakers. Mine looks just like yours, except I have the big 2x12. I have to turn down the Excursion knob to tighten up the bass. I like mine with a 4x12 Greenback cab too. CONGRATS MAN! I'll never forget when I got mine, I was the happiest I'd ever been after an amp purchase. Was in Nashville with family and setup in the hotel room cause I couldn't wait and almost got us thrown out. Amp sounds amazing at low volumes too, best master volume I've owned. Keep us posted dude!!

Yeaaaa I remember you saying you wanted to sell it too. Anyway, I been wondering how your amps are doing, what are the brand names again?? I know I should know by now (short term memory). 20th Shiva... Splawn Quick Rod... Fender Deluxe... They get the job done. But sometimes I think of selling the... Where was I?

JK Richedie.

PS: Mine's the KT88 version and it slays... First time I've actually "dug" KT88s in an amp.

So it goes.

F*ck I miss my amps

I played it at a rehearsal with the 2x12 V30 cab, I think I prefer Marshall GB M25 quad, seems less congested in the mids. May have to break the 2x12 cab in though.

I'm hoping to get a Bogner OS212 closed back loaded with the Cream 65/75 as another cabinet to run amps through for a different sound. V30s are so common, nice to have something different.

Peace
