So a friend of mine recently hooked me up with a bunch of Hendrix, Paul Kossoff, Dire Straights and CCR, and it rekindled my love of classic rock. Not that I ever stopped liking it, but I've been focused on listening to and playing modern metal pretty much exclusively for the last 6-7 years.

Well after spending a few days researching what amp to pick up to get me into the late 60's early 70's classic rock crunch that I grew up with, I decided on this Germino Club 40.

I've only had it about a week, but so far I'm thinking this amp and I are going to be together for a long, long time.

Its a non-MV early JMP 50 watt bass head type circuit. I knew going into this deal that to get the power section crunch I was after I was gonna have to crank it. I also knew that to get the most out of this amp I was gonna have to buy a new cab as well. I've only been able to play it through my G12K-100 loaded 2x12 which is less than ideal for the volume this amp needs to reach before the power tubes start to really break up. Despite the G12K-100s not being ideal in terms of volume management, they do sound wonderful with this amp. I'm in an apartment at the moment, so haven't been able to crank it, but goosing the front end with my TS9 is yielding some pretty amazing classic rock crunch

I plan on picking up either another 2x12 loaded with either Scumbacks or 25w Greenbacks, or I may just go for a 4x12 and load it with four GM12 25w Greenbacks.

Utterly fantastic amp! Greg is absolutely awesome as well!!!

Good choice. The LarMar MV sounds great in these and it'll give you a tad more gain if you want it.

Sweet amp! Don't forget the variac. It can drop some volume and add crunch/juiciness.

Thanks guys! I talked to Greg several times before pulling the trigger on this, and he seemed like a real stand up guy indeed. Was extremely informative and seems as genuine as they get.

I've got 2-3 months before I'm out of this apartment and back into a single family home and can't friggin wait until I can crank this thing. I thought about picking up an Alex's attenuator, but I think I'll just put that cash towards a new cab and keep playing it with the TS9 for now. Getting some GREAT lower volume crunch slightly goosing it with the OD for now. I also have the option of swapping the el34s for 6V6s which should get me into break up at much lower volume. Might give that a try...we'll see.

Was playing it here earlier and man is it touch sensitive. Pick light and you get that sweet barely breaking up thing and then lay into it the strings and it just roars! All with the guitar volume full on! I can't wait to be able to open it up full tilt, can't wait!!

Well the neighbors above me and below me were gone this afternoon, so I decided to see what this thing had cranked to 8. Impressive to say the least! Definitely need a new cab because while the 2x12 I have with G12K-100s sounds great with this amp when hitting the front with a TS9, its not so great with just the amp at full volume. Just not the right fit. But man was it rattling stuff off the walls :D

Pretty sure I'm gonna go for a 412 loaded with 25w Greenbacks in the future.
