So a friend of mine recently hooked me up with a bunch of Hendrix, Paul Kossoff, Dire Straights and CCR, and it rekindled my love of classic rock. Not that I ever stopped liking it, but I've been focused on listening to and playing modern metal pretty much exclusively for the last 6-7 years.
Well after spending a few days researching what amp to pick up to get me into the late 60's early 70's classic rock crunch that I grew up with, I decided on this Germino Club 40.
I've only had it about a week, but so far I'm thinking this amp and I are going to be together for a long, long time.
Its a non-MV early JMP 50 watt bass head type circuit. I knew going into this deal that to get the power section crunch I was after I was gonna have to crank it. I also knew that to get the most out of this amp I was gonna have to buy a new cab as well. I've only been able to play it through my G12K-100 loaded 2x12 which is less than ideal for the volume this amp needs to reach before the power tubes start to really break up. Despite the G12K-100s not being ideal in terms of volume management, they do sound wonderful with this amp. I'm in an apartment at the moment, so haven't been able to crank it, but goosing the front end with my TS9 is yielding some pretty amazing classic rock crunch
I plan on picking up either another 2x12 loaded with either Scumbacks or 25w Greenbacks, or I may just go for a 4x12 and load it with four GM12 25w Greenbacks.
