I definitely didn't need another amp, but I just had to. This past August, I got a chance to plug into Michael R/T's 68 Major again, and, after doing that, I knew there was no way I wasn't going to get one for myself. Tone like that messes with your head. You've just got to have it. Yes, Michael's clips sound fantastic, but that amp sounds even more amazing when you're in the room with it.
Long story short, I got my hands on my own '68 Major that Michael had worked his magic on. I'll spare everybody a long list of adjectives, but I am 100 percent done chasing Marshall tones elsewhere. This is where it ends!!
Big thanks to Michael for taking all of my annoying phone calls before I pulled the trigger on this amp.
I've been slammed at work for weeks, so the clip below is kind of hastily thrown together. It's a bit disjointed with some abrupt edits, but you get the idea.
And no, I don't have the hands that Michael does, but I figured I'd post up a clip anyway to give people an idea of what the amp sounds like with different variables at play -- different player, different guitars, speaker, recording chain etc.
Sm57 on Creamback H75, into apogee duet. No post eq or anything added. The bit of slap back you hear is from a strymon El Capistan that I've got in front of the amp.
First part is with a Palermo guitar, Frankenstein humbucker.
Second part is with a Fender Strat, bridge single coil.
