Are they Marshall inspired?
Single channel vs Dual channel?
What amp would you say they resemble in terms of tone?
Do they clean-up well with g/volume?
If not in-house, what brand of tranformers do they use?
EL34 vs 6L6?
How do you like the combo version?
38 watt vs 60 watt? (Not interested in 100 watt version)
Do they clean-up when you back-off the amplifier preamp, without a huge volume drop?
Do they give nice harmonic feedback?
Reverb vs NR?

*If they sound like an SLO 100, I'm not interested.

Message PhilC here on the board. He knows more about Naylors than anyone I can recall. They were a very popular amp in Nashville for several years.

I had a Michigan-built Duel 60. Very smooth, plenty of gain, zero harshness even if you try. Fantastic loop. Excellent hand-wired build quality. Very dark amps. Not like a SLO at all. They don’t really sound like anything else, but a Friedman BE-100/ SS-100 would be the closest. Smooth, dark, fairly compressed.

Dave Friedman used to mod the Super Drive 60 by adding a clean channel. This became the Duel 60. The Friedman Naked is basically a Naylor preamp with a Marshall-type power section. That’s what I’ve come to understand, at least.

If you're heading over to youtube for clips make sure to look up andy most. Great representation of those amps. Here's one to get you started:

I'm not sure they're marshall based. They're really their own thing. Gain down low is some really sweet blues sounds. Really thickens up single coils. Mid gain - well, that's in that clip I linked. Sweet. Singy. A fun feel. Higher gain is very saturated and easy to play, but it's never scooped chugga chugga kind of thing. It's got a ton of gain, but not in the metal sense, although I think he makes a hi-drive option (never played one).

I've owned several over the years. They were consistent other that one really early one I had that didn't have the dual potted master and that amp was a bit more bluesy and a bit less rock. I've found they much prefer V30's and are a bit dark through greenbacks. They also have the best master volume ever and sound absolutely killer at all volumes.

That's the sound! That is exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you!

Any difference between the older/newer Naylor amplifiers? Do you know what Andy is using for speakers/cabinet in the above clip?

Smooth dark compressed, really pleasing but I couldnt get it to cut enough in 2 guitar band. Perhaps I needed different cab but I sold it. At home it was amazing. The dual 2 channel was kind of limited. If they had a 2 or 3 channel with separate eq I might bite again as it was a really unique pleasing sounding amp

They say there's not. I don't know. I've only owned MI models.

For a lot of stuff I think Andy used a naylor 1x12 with an alnico gold. Not sure if that's what's in that clip but I asked him way back and that's what he was using.

As an aside, the naylor 2x12's sound terrible regardless of speakers. That's IMO, and I hate to say it, but I had one I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Honky mids with every amp with every speaker I tried. The 1x12, though, is absolutely awesome. Not sure what the difference is, but just FYI.

I had the same problem with the Guytron GT100. Smooth, and compressed. I had to work my ass off to get it to cut-through in a band setting. How would you compare the Naylor to a Silver Jubilee?

By any chance, are the Naylor 2x12 cabs made from pine? Large size pine cabinets cab be a nightmare when used with distoriton. Incredible with clean tones though. Edge of break-up is good too.

I've had both. Not all that similar. The naylor is less fizz, and smoother. The mids are more pronounced on the naylor.

No idea. Didn't like the naylor 2x12 for cleans or distortion. Very boxy and honky for anything.

The Naylor has a Marshall meets Fender Bassman tweed thing that I dig. A Super Drive 100 head is next on my list. :)

Just saw this. The Naylor in the ampfest vid is mine. JYD was rocking out on it, using a boost on and off I think.
They are based on a Marshall bass tone stack circuit, with a unique presence knob that can take it from thick and smooth to bright and cutting, but never gets harsh. Plenty of big yet tight lows. Not frog ass tight like a Wizard, but you can still chug.
They're one of the few amps I like for lightly crunchy stuff and also heavy grunge metal stuff.
Single channel is the Superdrive. Superdrive + clean channel is the Duel. The clean channel is, I believe, Dave Friedman's basic clean channel design with a single volume knob. It's a serviceable clean that takes pedals very well. Great master volume and effects loop.
The drive channel does clean up with the volume knob. 5881s, reportedly tube changes don't change the overall sound much.
Having had the 60 watt and 100 watt, I like the 100 watt. It also has a half power switch. Both power settings sound great, each having their own voice. No reverb on the Superdrive or Duel.

Hard to describe, they're their own thing. Kind of a bouncy feel, nice lower mid tone, like Marshall meets Bogner meets Friedman meets Mesa. It's everything I wanted the Shiva to be. Can't go wrong with a Naylor.

This is the amp if you like 90s hard rock like AIC, Tool. Check out House Harkonnen on Youtube. They use Naylors.

Almost sounds like you're describing a Cornford.

I've only played the Hellcat and Roadhouse. They seemed more compressed, not as big sounding or versatile.

Naylor Duel 100 gets pretty nasty

This sounds epic; actually reminds me a lot of how my old Deliverance 60 sounded on a cam mic
