Used one of these in the 90’s and it always delivered as a demo tone machine. Sold it thinking I’ll get another one later. That was in 2002…for years I just never saw one for sale, so kind of gave up. Started listening to my old demo’s/ideas and started searching again. Finally.

I remember when I worked at Guitar Center Chattanooga, we had a really nice setup for all the Ampeg bass gear. Had the 8x10, some 2x10s, 4x10s, whatever, and above them were the rackmount heads of varying sizes. We had one of those in there, but no one that I can remember ever touched or asked about the Ampeg bass gear. I myself really liked the sound coming out of the Gallien Krueger stuff, but to be fair, I also never fired up any of the Ampeg stuff. Also, I'm not a bass player lol

I have a GK 800rb and a GK 4x10 as well. That and Ampeg and their 8x10’s are pretty much the sound of bass for me. Strangely enough I’ve never played a GK that came after the 800rb that I liked nearly as much

Those preamps are fucking sick.


We used that in the studio for like 99% of the projects I worked on.

Literally every bass player would come in with the sansamp they used live saying "naw ill just use this"

Then we invariably A+Bed it to the svp-pro and the ampeg ended up being used.
 
interesting, ive been really focused on my bass tones lately, i got a darkglass x7 and a sansamp along with some of my nice preamps, just not sure im totally happy with any of them and was thinking i need ampeg of sort, even some of the plugins seem to have what im after, maybe ill grab one of these

I can’t recommend it more highly. They’re just incredibly versatile with the gain structure, voicing switches, the EQ and then the graphic on top of that. I haven’t tried this one straight into my DAW yet, but when I used it in the past, I would just plug it straight into a four track cassette recorder and it would sound really good. I’m going to try the direct sound vs. it feeding my PS2a and micing a cab.
