Picked it up yesterday. Sounds HUGE, really a difference maker when using the head. I had it through a 4x12 with 1980's G12-65's....lacked low end and had a high end fizz you couldn't dial out without doing a "Bogner Blanket" (hope that doesn't rustle too many jimmys :D ). I'll try and get a clip up soon.

I've found that the EVH heads sound best thru the speakers each of them were matched with. I've got the 2x12 and the 1x12 to go with my 50w head. They sounds awesome.

High fives. I got an EVH 412 about two weeks ago. Loved it, pulled the speakers, put 'em in a Bogner cab and traded the EVH. :D

I'm somewhat surprised it matches well with the EVH 5150 III because it's a high gain head. With my SLO clone, the speakers sound overwhelmed when I use the overdrive channel at significant volumes. The speaker breakup just sings when I'm on the crunch channel with plenty of gain dialed in, tho.

Ah! That's cool, the 2x12 and 1x12 are both 16 ohms...works out good. Any idea why the 2x12 is designated as 50 watts, but they have G12H30's (30w) don't they? Hows does the 1x12 and 2x12 compare? Just curious because the 2x12 has amazing low end.

Haha! That's funny. Did you load the EVH back up with the bogner speakers? (Assuming V30's?)

I'm so suprised how much a difference the speakers make to the amp. The actual "feel" of the amp is TOTALLY different. It feels so much more responsive, the harmonics jump off the fretboard, the palm mutes are monsterous and tight...etc. Power chords feel and sound so much more natural and warm. When I was at guitar center I plugged the 5150III into a bunch of different cabinets and thought the same thing (tried a Marshall 1960A, Avatar 2x12 with emenance speakers - both didn't sound as good as the EVH,.....in fact the 1960 sounded horrid).

It was 2 V30's and 2 K100s that I put in there several years ago when I was a bit more into the downtuned metal sound.

Yeah, speakers make a phenomenal difference. Those 1960's have G12T-75's, which to my ears are absolute crap. But change them to the Marshall V30s (that came in my 1960AV) or Greenbacks, and you have a solid cab.

When you get a chance, really crank the volume to drive those speakers hard while decreasing the gain. For me, that's where the Greenback-style speakers like the EVH signatures sound fantastic. But before you blow them up... is your amp a 100-watter? That 212 will only handle 50 watts, right?

Will do, I think the loudest i've had it so far is 9 oclock, which you need would to yell to someone to hear them. I have the 50 watt 5150III.

Here's a clip. Unfortunately, it sounds like my guitar is a bit out of tune (just put put a set of .09-.42 when i used .10-.46 forever, so its getting used to the lighter set). Excuse the excessive pinch harmonics - they're just so easy to do :D .

The 2x12 and 1x12 both have the G12h30s. I don't know why they're designated at 50w/25w respectively. The 1x12 sounds just like the 2x12, it has a great low end too but seems half as loud to me, great for bedroom playing without really going deaf. The resonance control on the 50w is super!

They definitely did their homework on the entire 5153 line IMO.

Love the EVH 2x12. Bought one a month or so ago and liked it so much that when I ran across another one this past weekend, I picked up a second.

Great Sounding Clip. I had two 1x12s with the G12H30s and didn't like them at all, I probably didn't get them broken in enough. I wanted to try to the 2x12 with the 50w head and would like to play through the combo to see if I would it better than the 50w head.

That's a great sounding clip! You are really making me think about picking up a 5150 III 50 watt when I return to Canada in 2 weeks :D
I have been amp-less for over a year, and using a Line 6 PODX3 Live. :(
I was thinking about something more high-end ,(expensive) but that amp might be all I need.
What guitar and pickups are you using in that clip? Thanks.

Dean

If you dont mind me asking, how much? I know they are $500 but have heard that some people got them for $400.

Thanks! I think the dynamics, feel, responsive, and harmonics of a real amp will remind you what you been missing :). I used a POD 2.0 for along time, nothing beats a bitchin' tube amp. My guitar is a Schecter S1 Elite, with stock "Duncan Designed" pickups. Honestly, i've wanted to change the pickups forever, but they sound fine through the 5150. I think they're modeled after 59' pickups, if that makes sense.

I got it for $400+tax = $435 out the door. Friend helped me out with a discount.

Oh... that explains a lot. I was confused how he was getting that sound in his clip because I thought it had the EVH Heritage GBs. Unfortunately for me, that just makes me want to try G12H30s even more. :aww:

and the combo has Greenback RIs in it FWIW.

Clip sounds rocking! Who cares about how many P.H. you do....when it sounds good!

Love me some G12H30s

EVHpickdust - Do you prefer the 50w head, or do you like the combo better?

I currently have the EVH 50w head with 2x12 and also am thinking of adding a second 2x12.
This is strictly for home us so probably overkill.
How do they sound stacked?
Can you still play at low volumes?
How do they sound separated for stereo?
Thanks for the feedback.

I've had my evh cab almost a year and still not sold on the h30. I have any of you tried creambacks in this cab?
