So I have decided to go with an Egnater M4 preamp and either a Randall RT2-50 or VHT 2/50/2 for a poweramp. I need something for some effects. Was thinking about maybe a TC G System or G Major...not set on anything yet. Also I need something to control the amp and effects.

So what do you guys suggest? Am I missing anything?

how much can you spend?

limited budget?

ADA MC1 midi controller (takes phantom power from M4)

Rocktron Intellifex Original (sounds ridiculously good for $130 or so.) also takes midi

Yeh I am on a limited budget. I would say I dont want to spend anymore then 2500-3k. Want to be able to control the M4 and effects with a footcontroller.

$2500-$3k including the M4? or just for Fx and Controller?

You can do a lot with that much money. Axe FX Ultra and a Voodoo Labs Ground Control Pro?

$2500-3k includes the M4 which I found for $1400. Going to get two modules so thats will bring it to about $2000. The rest is for gear to go along with it. I may just end up getting a new M4 with the 4 modules I want. The guy selling his M4 doesnt have but 2 modules that interest me.

When you say you want to control the FX, are you talking like midi CC commands, or just midi PC commands?

What fx do you really need? delay, chorus, reverb? Do you need tap tempo? DO you need an intelligent harmonizer? do you care about a compressor? etc?

Well I am not sure...I would like to be able to mix certain effects with a module and be able to control it from a foot controller. Maybe something like a Ground Control Pro would work. What are midi CC and PC commands?

The main ones I need right now are the basics...chorus, delay, reverb are the main ones i need. A harmonizer would be neat. I am really new at this...as you probably can tell...

If that budget must include everything, I can't see adding the Axe Fx.

Used M4s with 4 mods are getting $1900-ish as new ones are $2200 or $2250 now. A used RT2/50 is $700. So you're at $2600 already. You're looking at $400 left over for effects and a controller. It'll be tough. A Ground Control Pro is still $300 used. You could get a G-Major for about $300 used as well.

Taco, what mods are you looking for?

You're in for a treat.  Honestly just get a Ground Control Pro and a simple multifx like the GMajor2. the GCPro is around $400 new and the Gmajor is $500. Bam you're done.

I am trying to decide what modules to get. I know I want a hotrodded marshall module...either the SLX or EG5. Maybe a ERECT at some point. Also need a great midgain module that can get a little bite to it if needed. Than I need a great gull warm clean tone. Thinkin either the T/D or the BMAN. I play alot of rock and hard rock including modern hard rock. What do you suggest? What amps do the higher gain modules remind you of?

SLX, SL2, EG3/4, MHG and EG5 will all give the hot rodded Marshall sound. Just different flavors. If you want a more traditionally voice Marshall tone, the SLX cannot be beat IMO. EG5 is more spikey in the upper mids and can sound a little strident sometimes. But, once you dial it in, it rocks.

From your descriptions, the T/D might work best for cleans/mid gains. The Twin side is clean and warm with a great sparkle on top. The D channel can get bitey and raunchy if you dime the gain or hit it with a pedal. I don't own a Bman, but I suspect that would work as well as others have raved about it.

FWIW, I use the VX for my clean and mid gain channel and it kills. I like a brighter clean channel though so it might not work for you.

The BMAN might work for the cleans and midgain right? I tried a supersonic a while back and loved the clean tone and dirty sounds that came from that amp.

As far modern rock/hard rock what would you suggest? Erect? COD?

Erect, EG5 or MHG for modern rock sounds. COD is a totally different vibe--kinda old Boogie/Dumble.

what sound are you trying to emulate? a cheaper way to go and maintain your versitility would be the RM100. Used head $650 - modules x3 $600. get into a used Gmajor for $300 I'd pick up a Decimator Pro G $399 that would leave ya the rest of your cash for a foot controller, cables, rack case, etc.

Well, looking at the mods I have, I'd say the T/D is going to give you top shelf cleans. I like both channels alot. The T side is pristine and chimey and the D side is fatter, warmer. EG3/4 can do well for a mid-gain mod on channel A. Channel B is warmer/darker and more saturated. A great solo tone. I use the MHG as my "Mesa" mod since it's more compressed. Tons of gain on tap. The EG5 is a more open, more biting high-gain tone. Great for rhythm or lead.

Did you by that other M4 yet? I know one of those mods was a single channel Randall.
