Hi folks,

I'm in the process of building a guitar rig and would love your help. I want to have 2 amps on my rig and setup everything in a wdw configuration. Below are the components I have so far:

1. Amps: Friedman Plex, Headfirst Alta
2. Cabinets: Friedman 4x12 (Scumback 65,75 speakers), 2 Bogner 1x12 cubes (with Celestion V30 speakers)
3. Power amp: Fryette PS 100 (to use as an attenuator and also to power the Bogner cubes in the WDW configuration)
4. Amp switcher: KHE amplifier cabinet switcher
5. Post Effects: (Need to decide between the following: EVH SDE 3000 delay, Eventide H9)
6. Pre Effects: Boss SD1, EVH Wah, Korg Tuner)

I would love your feedback on how to set everything up. Below some questions:

1. Which MIDI board would you recommend for moving between amps, do channel switching and configure presets with effects?
2. Would you add a Fryette Cyclops to help with the amp switching?
3. Do I need a mixer to support the WDW configuration? If I do, which mixer in rack format would you recommend?
4. Would you add a noise get like the ISP Rack Decimator? Where would you place it in the rig?

If anyone can help draw this, it would be greatly appreciated.

I would take the Friedman Plex and 4x12 and use the SD-1 to boost it. Find a couple delay pedals you like and sell everything else.
I could certainly do that, but I already have all these pieces and my intent is to incorporate them into a wdw rig.

Don't use the H9, doesn't have dry through. You'll have phase issues.

Also for this configuration you don't need a mixer, i don't think, but we need more info on how you are wanting to run it

are the amps running at the same time or are you switching between them?

The PS-100 is mono, how will you power two Bogner cubes in stereo for your W/D/W? Perhaps you need an LX-II?

I want to be able to switch between amps.

You are right!!! I do have a Synergy Syn 50/50 that I'm not using that could perhaps be incorporated into this rig. But still want to use the PS for attenuation purposes.

I think that the KHE has an input where you can connect an attenuator and that should take care of all the amps in the rig.

Are you positive the amps have the same number of gain stages? You’ll have phase issues there, too. I can’t run my Marshall’s in parallel for this exact reason.

To control it all save yourself a lot of headache and look into a Boss ES-8. It can do all you need for pedals and CC and PC commands even at the same time if you get version 2.

Yep, I was going to suggest this as well.

Will I get phase issues even if using one amp at a time?

Guitar > Pedals > KHE Amp Switcher (w/ 2 amps hooked up) > KHE speaker level out to PS-100 amp input > 4x12 cab

PS-100 line out > FX Delay/Verb > Synergy 50/50 > 1x12 cubes.

I don't think phase is an issue with each signal coming out of its own cab. If it does, wouldn't moving the cab back 1/2" fix it?

Thank you sir!

No not at all. Only when both are used at the same time.

Phase issues are definitely an issue when the source is the same. Frequencies cancel out and bass is removed causing ear fatigue and all kinds of odd effects. This isn’t a mic phase issue, this is a speaker phase issue.

You're upping your game, Bro! What happened to the old school Line 6 Pod racks into tube power amps?
