I have always used stomp boxes on a pedal board, but I want to try a rack effects processor and any info/opinions would be appreciated. I would like a unit where I could change the effects via a midi foot controller. Thanks

The G Major 2 is a great budget unit. I'm also selling an as new one right now if you're interested. ;)

Yeah the TC Electronics G Major is an excellent bang for your buck. The effects are pretty good and it's fairly easy to use.

Another option is the Eventide Eclipse. Incredible effects but a little more difficuly to use/program IMO.

Also, I hear the Axe Fx has great effects along with all the sims, but I've never tried one.

G-Major II is my choice in that general price range. Sounds good and is very easy to work with, I vastly prefer it to the original version.

Another option are the classic Rocktron units; Intellifex, Replifex and the (less classic) Multivalve.

When you go up in price and quality they often get more complicated, which can be daunting for someone who wants to plug and play. See the Eclipse and the TC G-Force, and some of the Digitech units.

Another vote for the Gmajor II, was a bit confusing at first but that was because I thought that you could start with blank patches and work from the ground up, and that's not really the way it works, you just edit pre-existing patches however you want and then save them to your own preset...

It's super easy to use and the effects really are pretty damned good....

Keep in mind though, there is definitely a bit of signal "change" when putting it into the serial loop of your amp, I don't really want to say signal "loss" because that wouldn't really be accurate, there is just a slight difference in sound, I actually don't mind it at all with my VH-4 and have actually come to like the way it makes the amp sound.

If this is something that is going to REALLY bother you, make sure you have some type of switching system that allows you the bring the Gmajor in and out of your signal path...

....OTHERWISE you have to run it in a parallel loop on Kill Dry, and to be quite honest, over half the effects sound like absolute shit when running it that way...

Been here, done this.

Went from around 40 stomps with an active line up of about 15+/- at any given time, to looking for a rack mount that could do everything. Ended up buying the Axe-Ultra specifically for this purpose and it does it in spades. I have kept my TF, PF, Clyde Deluxe and several signature boosts and dirts. Otherwise, the lil' black box handles everything perfectly well, dead silent, completely configurable, MIDI controllable, expression pedal able.

Just sayin',
V.

I'm having a blast with a Lexicon MPX G2 and my Diezel VH4S. You're able to have effects going through the front end of the amp and through the effects loop at the same time. Sounds pretty damn good too.
