Hey guys whats up? Ok I am having an issue with my vh4, I tune to two tuning, standard c# And drop b. Here is the dilema, When im in c# my vh4 btw (Just retubed with jj e34l I love the sound alot better then the 6l6s it came with) The amp rips, HEavy tite down picking harmonics jump off the fretboard heavy as #uck, But when i drop down to drop b its like my amp gets lost. Yes i changed settings, Ive tried everything to get the amp to hold the same way but it doesnt. Its like it gets very loose and almost gets lost in the mix very easy, WHen i crank the mids its makes it sound week, Kinda like the amp cant handle it that well or somthing. I have a diezel front loaded cab, Mesa 4x12 over sized, marshall 4x12. I have tried everything including different pickups seems to me the passives sound the best but i cant understand why I am having this problem. Is there a way i can have my amped tweaked a bit? Perhaps i have an older version? Peter you told me several months ago to send the amp somewhere but unfortunatly i was on the road, I am currently home now, In the midst of a recording And the situation has become more apparent now more then ever Now that im totally playing in drop b. So my question are

Can i have the amp updated? or even modded a bit?
Can you install a midcut switch To tighten things up a bit maybe give me some more options?
ANyhelp would be awsome.

Thanks

Can you post your settings and what channels you are using ?
The VH4 in general centers the low end at around 80hz with help from the deep circuit, I wonder if your trying to cross the bounds
into sub sonic territory where only elephants will hear you.

I can help You, but where are you located to send the
amp ?

No Midcut possible on the VH4, sorry.

Im located in brooklyn ny. zip code 11209

Ive tried changing settings on channel 3 and 4. Its just when tuned to c# everything is butter perfect you know when i drop down that special somthing goes away and i dont understand why.

Thanks peter

I use mine all the way down to Drop A on Ch. 3 and it never looses any character. This is on a guitar with active EMG's though.

This is either your guitar/strings or you are using too much gain. Don't blame your amp, seriously. I find it difficult to picture an amp that can compete with Diezels in definition or low tuned department.

Have you tried other speakers mixed with v30s?

If you want midcut try an EQ before the amp or in the serial loop, but you should not need one.

It should not be the amp nor the V30s. I think it is your settings or guitar.
- Too much gain?
- Too much bass/deep?
- No midds?
- Speaker distortion (=too much volume or bass)?
- Unsuitable speaker cabinet?
- Unsuitable guitar for the tuning?
- Unsuitable pickups for the tuning in relation to the guitar?
- In band context or if you are using multiple amps: Phase reversion with another instrument or amp?
- Does the same happen with low and high volume levels?

Just as a reference here: I use 2x12" cab with V30s and 8-string guitars in which the 8th string is F# (= approx. 46Hz) and have no problems when dialed accordingly.

front loaded cab would be the tighter choice.

What pickups are you using?

I have a diezel front loaded 4x12, Mesda boogie oversized 4x12, marshall 4x12, 5150 4x12
I have alot of guitars with different pickups.

duncan blackout
duncan custom custom (passive) Works the best
dimebucker

Its Weird im in the process of recording and it just seems the amp looses its opmh it becomes not like somthing is broklen just sounds ok, Nothing special, The amp sounds rocking in higher tunings.

i use custom guage 12-60 strings so its not that.

My serial number is 0607ag0 someone told me i might have an old version might need updateing?

I do not recognize similar problem with my amp and I have a 2006 model (serial 06...) as well. As far as I know there is no revision after the model you have. Or if there is please let me know as well, thanks.
