Looking for speakers to go into a closed back 2 x 12 cab. It's a large Randall 2 x 12 box (12's are diagnal) and had the 20 yr old Jaguars finally give up the goods.

I'm looking for a speaker comparable to the Celestion V30, but that will shift the eq curve down into the lower register. More bass/low mids and less high end buzz.

I've been looking at Eminence and Celestion speakers.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

I got a pair of Eminence Swamp Thangs coming for my 2x12. The Legends break up too early on my 7-string lows clean, and overall are too buzzy. I wonder if we're after the same thing?

Possibly.

Looking for a speaker that is not too harsh, but can move that air in the low end register.

FWIW, I bought some of the last of the $20 V30 clones from Warehouse Guitar Speakers. I find them to be quite comparable to the v30, but w/o the HF spike that the Celestions have. I don't know if that's what you're looking for, but they're still available for $45 a pop.

Also, you might want to check out Scumback or Weber speakers, Weber makes both lines. The speaker that you may want to look at is their clone of a pre-Rola Celestion 12H-30 with the 55Hz cones. The only real differance between the two is the Weber sounds like a newly manufactured one, and the Scumback sounds like nearly 40 year old one. They ain't exactly cheap, though, a little bit more than a new Celestion.

Also, I believe that Eminance may have made those speakers for Randall, you may want to look for a recone kit for them, or contact Randall or Eminance for more information about getting them reconed provided that you like the sound. --I personally didn't think that they were bad sounding speakers.

That cab is heavy as hell too for it's size.

Yes it is.

I'm leaning towards the Eminence V12, Governor, Mon O War or Commonwelth speakers. The Commonwelth sounds intriguing. Or else looking at the Celestion V30, GT 75, GT 80, etc.

Looking for a pair of speakers that will fit in with Recto/Uberschall tones.

one more for Swamp Thangs, they'll do what you described and get along with a recto.

or maybe 1 Governor and 1 Swamp Thang?
