So a few weeks back, I asked about the Gallien Krueger 112 Thiele speaker cabs. I went out on a short limb and purchased them on Craigslist in Nashville and used them this weekend at a show. The cabinet houses the EVM 12L speaker which is touted as a “neutral” sounding speaker that does nothing for tone and lets the Amp/preamp create the heard signal. I can’t comment with extensive experience because I’m very early in these cabs but I can comment on how they sound in my signal chain.
Guitar->Myasnikov X88–> stereo out 1) PS100 -> ADA 2x12 center dry cab. 2) FX8 (post preamp)-> out Lt and Rt to Seymour Duncan stereo Power amp —> Thiele 1 and Thiele 2
Sounds a bit complex but it’s actually a quite simple set up. Sounds HUGE.
To talk about the cabinet/speakers. Loaded with the EVM 12L speakers
I was very pleased with the tone. Nothing crazy drastic. No piercing highs or flub with multiple guitar changes, effects, boosts, eq etc. Very clear and even tone with the FX8 effects in use. Able to keep up and create enough sound for coloring the center dry ADA 2x12. Can get VERY loud without change in character. I have about same sound/tone W/D with both ADAs but the stereo separation with WDW intrigues me. I can tell the difference in WDW vs WD but I’m not sure others in the audience can. Just sharing.
Btw there is a 3rd GK in there. That was thrown in with the deal. Different speaker in that one (non Thiele) and open back EM12N speaker. Jury is in deliberation about that one.
