Hey Juggernaut got it today finally after missing it....

Of course I had to take off the black board because I hate leaving stuff stock looking... I like to make it my own. So I took the time today to do kind of what I did to the last one and fab up a plexiglass backing, mounted the stuff to that. Because I never liked just taking off the board, and mounting stuff to the grill like alot of people do. This way the grill still stands out in front of the emblems and makes it look really 3D in person. And This time Since I left the grill stock on the last 5150 I had, I decided to make the grill a different color. So Silver grill and plexiglass this time around.... And I think I switched the peavey signs from one side to another....... Lemme know what you think

Tested the tubes, The Pre's have about 30% life left, The powers have about 50% life left according
to my tube tester.

BAD MONKEY.... I tried that for the first time. Well You see my settings, The bad monkey is set 10, 6, 4, and 0. I like the rythem channel boosted with gain on 6 both buttons in. The lead though, I much prefer it unboosted with gain on 6. So here I am switching back and fourth, I just cant decide. Rythem boosted, or lead unboosted. Seems liek the difference is SO suttle, It makes it very hard to choose. I tried all angles out in front of the cab to see if I liked one better than the other from different angles... Same results... I mean it sounds completely HUGE. Huger than I remember through my new eclipse and the 70's tuned to B. It is THICK and TIGHT. Damn its beautiful. I have no idea what IM going to end up doing. The Rythem sounds a little fuller maybe a very tiny bit thicker. And the unboosted lead sounds more raw i guess, I am thinking I can turn up the resonance a little on the unboosted lead, and probably sound the same as the boosted rythem does now. Give it that extra thickness. I just cant decide. Since IM only guitar in band, I think I might end up doing the boosted rythem. Damnit, I dunno. I wish I didnt buy the boost or I wouldnt have this complicated. One is Massive, the other is... Massive in a very very very slightly different way. And I love both ways.

Anyway... Just thought Id post

i really dig the way that silver grill looks on it. i was thinkin about doin some cosmo to mine when i get it.
bad monkey huh? maybe i'll have to try that. i was thinkin about buying a few boost pedals to try out too.

Thanks mayng.
The first one I didnt the plexi and left the grill black.
I went on a limb and did the grill silver. Looks awesome
especially in person when the tubes are glowing. And the whole
3d thing instead of just sticking the emblems on the grill like
all those lazy fabricators seem to do.

And hte bad monkey makes the rythem channel very usable and not as muffled sounding.
Still cant decide though... I love the boosted rythem, Love the unboosted lead.
Man this guitar and I guess my playing just makes this shit sound massive either way.
I think about running 2 of these babies at the same time, Then I wouldnt have to decide.
Jesus I would destroy everything within a 5 mile radius. Its HEAVY.

That really does look freaking sweet, and like you said, it gives it a 3D look. I like it!

Ever since I started using a boost pedal with my 5150 about two years ago, I haven't been able to play the amp without one. It just sounds so good with the boost. Both channels sound great boosted, but I always use the lead channel with the gain down around 2 or so.

Yeah... I just seem to prefer lead unboosted and rythem boosted.

Man i would fuckin kill to have both at the same time.

Still cant fuckin decide which one.
I mean i need to eleminate one so
I can stop having strokes about it.
and tap dancing when I play trying to
decide.

Okay this is what ive always done.
I done this with my first 5150, and also
a peavey ultra plus. I took off the stupid light shit
and painted the clear peavey symbol black and silver
and put it where the lighted one used to be and it was
plexi with the grill on it. Looked WAY better than the christmas lights to me.

For the 5150.

2 screws in each side of the headshell.

Then either push it from the back or grab the grill with pliers
and pull it out.

Take off tape around edge of grill.

Take out 1000 little staples holding the grill to the edge of the board.

Take off all logos.

Measure, cut plexi in my case to size.

Lay matching peice over board, Mark holes for logos with marker.

Drill the holes so you dont crack anything.

Take board, cut off like 2 inches on each end.

Drill mounting holes for new shit and mount it
to the end peices of the original board.

I mounted behind them.

Make sure it all lines up before screwing shit down,
and make sure the grill fits on the 2 end peices evenly.

Then wipe it all down and put it back together.
The grill can be a bitch to get to go back in due to
bending edges when getting out the original staples
so make sure you bend it back down or you might rip
your tolex.

I'm having trouble deciding if I like the 5150 or the VTM better. Each has something I really like. If I could only combine the two into one amp. :worship:
