our bassist is currently playing thru a marshall bass rig, solid state, pretty loud, but its just about pushed for the venues we are playing at since he hooked up with us. We have gigs at larger venues in a few weeks and I dont think he feels it will cut it vol wise. Plus he is just not all that happy with the tone. We are looking at these two, the rack mount and the vintage reissue. Have to figure the reissue will hold more of its value but the rack unit has a bit more to offer.
anyone use these? and if so, what is your opinion on them.

The SVT2 Pro, is a MONSTER of an amp, killer tones.

If the Reissue is ANYTHING close to the original, they are what made Ampeg THE bass amp company that they are. AWESOME!!!

SVT Classic is a great amp. Loud as fuck. Punchy as hell. If I was playing bass in a rock band its the amp I would use.

I havent played this new Reissue though, but Im assuming its very similar to the classic, which I assumed was their Reissue, but with modern cosmetics.

Hmm that new Reissue has four inputs though. Id love to try that amp out. I bet it roars.

Used an SVT 2 Pro to record this track. You can drive them pretty hard with the gain knob if you're into that. They stay really clean as well, if that's what you want, and they're loud as hell. Great bouncy, tight tones.

OR.....you could tell him he can save money and buy one of these....

My bass player used an early 80's SVT Classic with those switches above the knobs when we recorded our last cd. His MM Stingray into that head going to an Ampeg 4x10 cab was the best bass tone I have ever heard, at least for the kind of stuff I'm into. I would totally go with the Vintage.
