To me it seems a bit all over the place, without a strong through-line. Compare to a song which I thought did a pretty good job of having big changes while maintaining a strong through-line:

With the AE song, it almost seems like it was longer originally but then important connecting bits were cut out to make length.

Thoughts?

The AE chorus doesn’t fit well with the rest of the song. Didn’t matter to me too much. As soon as the drums came in I lost interest. There’s that sound again.

I agree with scooter, the chorus didn't fit with the rest of the song

Very smooth production and everything, but definitely not my jam, especially compared to their early stuff with Johan and Angela singing.

The Gorgoroth song is very good - you can always tell Infernus' writing style.

I just never have and never will understand that vocal style

Music usually crushes but can’t get over the vocals for any bands like this

Different Strokes

This band went downhill when Angela & Christopher left. The band's all about Alissa now, and went totally lame. Loomis didn't belong, Joey is a great player and is very much like Christopher, (and should be, since he was a student of Chris), but I expect more lameness to come.

I agree, Alissa can do scream or sing and no doubt, she looks cute and fit, but for me, they kinda become a parody of themselves. Ain't Angela managing the group since she left?

Yeah, it didn't seem fair to compare it with AE, but it's the poster child for "song with big changes" in my head.

I like it. Alissa vocals are brutal in a good way and my buddy Joey ripping it on guitar
I agree, those elements are pretty good (though one solo seemed a bit Slayer-derivative). Personally I look for more than aesthetics when it comes to music though.

Arch Enemy used to do the "big change" thing really well

"Ravenous" comes to mind

Just listened a few times, definitely more cohesive IMO. Still not fully there for me, but it's close enough that I'm wondering if I just need to listen some more until I get the drift.

I dig it. But my fave thing this band does is when Ammott does some Michael Schenker inspired lines under her growling vox. some sort of arpeggiated thing would have been cool on this chorus.

Is it a particular drum tone you're not a fan of?
Just typical over used software assistance. No character or dynamics. I was digging most of the guitar riffs though, apart from the chorus.

I guess it's hard for headliners to get real drummers, too :ROFLMAO:

There’s a drummer. They just don’t like to spend the time or money to make drums sound good on their own. Over the years bands just started lying to themselves about this sounding better, punchier, heavier. Every hit perfectly the same. They just can’t face that they are now doing soulless recordings because of budgets.

I like this better… and for all, I know they are using triggers on this as well, but it just sounds more natural to me.
