Close to getting this board together after years of being indecisive on looper and switcher..

All of these pedals will not make the final cut, I just threw some extras on to fill space. My question is, which cable should I go with in order to keep bulk/size to a minimum? I know Dave likes the Belden 9778 and Lava mini but I am for sure soldering pancake jacks on these, as there will be quite a bit of movement for awhile until I settle on pedals.

Cables will run on the board with tie mounts on a neat "track" so to speak. I have a bit of the 9778 but it seems like it would get thick fast once I get 8-9 pedals wired up.

Has anyone soldered pancakes (going to use GLS) onto the lava mini? What about Canare GS-4? I know it's a smaller size cable but I've heard it doesn't sound nearly as good as the GS-6 or even the Redco house brand cable. If I have to use thicker stuff to get the tone, I will. Opinions?

I use either Lava mini or Mogami 2319. I believe they're pretty close in diameter and tone. My last board is all 2319 with HICON pancake and short straight Nuetrik plugs out of the pedal switcher. I've found that all pancake plugs aren't equal when it comes to the ability to make strong solder connections. I don't like the standard switchcraft pancakes because it's difficult to solder to and they short easily. The HICON's were by far the best and easiest to solder. I believe Lava has discontinued selling HICON but Mark now sells something very similar, if not the same plug just rebranded.

I've done many tests comparing short runs of various brand mini cables and I could hear no difference. So I stick with 2319.

Thanks for the reply! Nice board
Thanks.

I thought Dave usually used Magomi 2319 cable for pedalboards?

I've used shrink tubing around the mini cables at the plug to make it fit more snug in the connectors but I stopped after realizing I barely moved my pedals.

He said he prefers Belden 9778 over any cable he's tried (assuming he means from guitar to board/board to amp) and the lava mini for boards. Not to say it's the end-all statement on cables but I trust his ears :) I also really liked the Canare and Mogami in this video: https://youtu.be/maqPNA658qk

I'd like to use the Belden, since I have some already. Problem is, with a flat board I can't run the cable underneath so size of the jacket is definitely a factor. I might be able to get away with using thicker cable since at least 4 of the pedals' wiring will be covered by the riser. For now, my buddy let me borrow a bunch of his old George L's in random sizes so I can at least get up and running to test this thing out :) Who knows, I may like the sound and buy some of that off him.

Also - where can I get affordable short barrel straight 1/4" jacks (switchcraft 380 style)? GLS has the pancakes for a great price but they don't have short straights..
