Every now and then something cool pops up on the old Craigslist. Yesterday morning it happened to be a mint Uberschall rev blue half stack. One owner and never gigged, and less than 30 minutes from my house.
I went over with my guitar and nova system to put it through the paces. I was actually looking for a mkv but couldn't pass up the chance to at least try one of the very last amps on my list (only remaining now are the Elmo and some Cameron's.)
I have owned a few shivas and with every amp I've had, all the medium and high gainers available, the recent shiva el34 is at the top of the heap. Just giving an idea of what I consider great tone.
Well, the uber did not disappoint. I find the clean very warm and useful. Although it needs to be set up unconventionaly for volume unity I don't find that to be an issue.
What a farkin rock machine! This thing screams. Tons of growl and low end. Very controllable feedback. Effects loop works great. I got to play it pretty loud with just my drummer for a while yesterday and it killed. I'll try playing with the whole band tonight and tracking it in the iso.
My only gripe is that I wish you could dial down the gain more on ch 2. It seems to pull out some of the saturation but the amount of gain doesn't change that much unless it's almost off. A better taper would be nice. It does respond well to guitar volume though so not a big deal.
Here she is.
