Recently, I picked up a Bogner Barcelona as a grab-n-go, clean platform amp for smaller gigs (or big gigs with small stages). Phenomenal amp. Takes pedals like a champ, and despite it's conservative 40W rating, it's a LOUD bold clean, headroom for days. Loaded with either 6Ca7s or EL34s, it sounds great. Just a nice, simple, pedal friendly amp.
My only gripe with it was that the combo was HEAVY. I think I just forgot how big tone + bigger transformers = weight. Is what it is.
So I had the idea to break the combo into 2 pieces. I picked up an Bogner cube (Black and Wheat). For the head, I came across some pictures of a special Japanse run of Bogner International Series heads, that looked like mini plexi heads. But... they used the newer comet tolex. I called Charlie and Jorg, and they totally hooked me up with this custom, one-off headshell. Mini plexi style, but in classic black tolex.
I couldn't be happier. The tone is even bigger than before, thanks to the enormous sounding cube 112. And having it in two separate pieces makes it a little easier to manage, weight wise. Stage footprint is pretty much identical.
Big thanks to Jorg and Charlie! you guys rock!
