Hey Y'all,

I just purchased a used 100-watt Einstein (assuming the eBay transaction is legit) and while I'm DEFINITELY excited about my new acquisition, I'm not sure if I did the right thing, or if I should have held-out for a 50-watter. :)

I know that each channel has its own volume knob, which (in theory) would allow me to crank the master volume to a decent level without destroying everything in a five-mile radius. I'm just wondering if keeping the channel volume at a low level will allow enough preamp signal to reach the power amp for a solid tone.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the 50/100-watt dilemma, or on the channel/master volume issue?

Thanks,

Clint

Hi,

no dilemma - I heard 100 Watt Einsteins sounding really amazing at low volumes. I play a 50 Watt head and thinking to change to 100 Watts, and I play at lower levels (not bedroom, but usually without earplugs). So don't worry ...

I can confirm that. I have a Einy in 100W head format.
Best Master Volume on head amp ever created. Sounds great in all positions.

Sounds devastating(ly) amazing at every setting above 11-12:00 (highly recommended ;) blows windows, rats out of the holes, and you can actually feel your 4x12" is moving air - esp. looking after the finely printed flies on the opposing walls :) ).

No problem!

I have a Einstein 100 6550, and I can tell that this head sounds amazing, in the bedroom, in the stadium, and anything in between.

As with any 50w to 100w amp, It's more bold and huge sounding.

The master volume really works (the best that I have ever seen).

Just has one problem: You will never need OD pedals again (the greatest OD / Gain that I have ever heard, nothing, but I mean nothing ever sounded as good as this amp).

I used to gig with a vintage JTM45/100 and a vintage SLP and some boutique pedals but now they are just collecting dust... :scared:

+1 to all previous posts. All Diezel amps - and I do mean ALL - sound amazing at any volume. One of the trademarks of Diezels in my opinion is the ability to dial in your sound and have it be consistent from bedroom levels to city-leveling cranked volumes! The 50-100w issue really comes down to additional headroom at loud (very loud) levels and in my estimation affects clean tones most. The actual decibel difference between 50w and 100w is nearly insignificant. It's all about headroom and response. You can't go wrong with either!

Welcome and congrats!!

My Einstein 100 slays Dragons AND whispers mice to sleep!

the difference between 100 and 50 watts is 3DB. It takes ten times the power to double volume. so a 500 watt head is twice as loud as a 50. Its all about headroom which you can decrease by leaving the master low and cranking the channel volume. And dont forget he 100 watt allows you to mix tubes . I am loving my el34Bs mixed with 6550's. why limit options?!

Thanks, everyone, for putting my mind at ease. :)

Now, I just need to get ahold of the guy (or gal) who ran the auction...luckily, I haven't paid him/her yet...I haven't received a reply to any of my questions/messages.

If the eBayer from Dallas happens to read this, I'd really like to pay you for your amp. ;)

Good luck, dude.

There are 2 channels, with a volume for each... and then 2 master volumes that can be switched on top of that.

I have to admit, though, that I don't currently use a footswitch for anything (it broke.... long story) and rely on my volume pot!

PS Einsteins are monsters. They aren't the 'cheap' option because of any lack of tone or quality, they're just mechanically simpler (2 channel, no midi). And destroy. Seriously. If you think that they're the 'vintage' sounding amp you're also wrong... they do modern insanity very well indeed, thankyouverymuch!

Are both of the Einstein's channels fairly responsive to the guitar's volume control? I tend to be a bigger fan of the volume knob than I am of footswitches.

The Einstein will work brilliantly for all the things you described. Have no worries.

Yes! I play U2 stuff sometimes in mode3 channel 1 - volumeknob on my guitar at 2 (HSS-Strat). Volumeknob from 5-8 brings me from Rock to Hardrock.

Einstein is a quality amp with all the features, you could espect from a quality amp. Your decision would be, whether you like the sound and playing feel or not, depending on your stile of music.

congrats man!! I wouldnt worry, diezels sounds good at low volume, you just need to "balance" the master and channel volums so you get in da zone.

First of all, congrats for your new adquisition!! I can assure you that you'll never be disappointed with your Eini :D

I usually play my Einstein 100w at bedroom volumes, and, as stefvorcide says, once you get the "fine tuning" between the master and channel volume, it will sound amazing

Please tell us your feedback once you get it!!

+1000 on everything said. I was playing last night while everyone in was in bed and no stomping on the floor from the wife, so you're good to go. I have a 100 watt einstein and unfortunately, I play at low volumes more often than not so don't worry

First of all, thanks to all of you for your input...I definitely feel like a welcome new member of the Diezel family.

The past several days have been kinda crazy and (now that things seem to have been resolved) a little amusing. Long story short, I just now received a message from the dude who listed the Einstein on eBay. Apparently, he's been out of town for a while and was unable to contact me. (I'm pretty sure this was his first eBay transaction.)

Of course, in waiting for his reply, I've spent countless hours researching other amps, since the likelihood of finding another Einstein at this price seems pretty dim. (And I was literally minutes away from buying a Voodoo-modified Marshall DSL 100 when I received this guy's message.)

Anyway, things *seem* to have worked out for the best, and I'll be sure to let you all know when I'm actually able to plug-in to my Einstein for the first time...CHEERS!!!
