I have had it for about 2 months now and love it. It is a 2008 and needed new power tubes. I spoke to Peter Diezel via email and he was super nice and helpful. He even sent me a 7025 preamp tube to try in the V2 spot for free! Anyhow he recommended replacing the TAD EL34s it had in it with Ruby EL34bhts. I was leaning more towards paying a little extra for Winged Cs since they are very durable. I spoke to Doug at Dougs tubes about the bhts and they were highly recommended due to the higher voltage rating on them. I got a set with a PC of 38 which was in the recommended range given my by Mr. Diezel. I have to say these tubes sound/feel really good. The amp woke up a bit with them. I may try the winged Cs next time, but for now I'm liking the bhts.
Thanks to Peter Diezel for the awesome customer service and really cares about making sure his amps are working for us!

Just a quick question, was the 7025 V2 tube a TAD 7025S..?? I am a HOOOOGE fan of those tubes. Just wanted to know why Peter focused on your V2 position and wanted you to try out this TAD pre as opposed to what was in there.

No biggy, just curious - thanks Bro,
V.

Well one of the stock tubes that was in it went nuclear and blew one of the fuses two weeks after I got the amp. I emailed peter to see if it was just a tube issue. It also blew the preamp tube in V2 because channel three lost almost all of it's gain. Peter advised the power tube that blew while I was on channel three may have blew the preamp tube in V2 also. Anyhow he sent me a new preamp tube to replace the TAD 12ax7 c hg+ that was in V2. He wanted me to try a TAD7025 in there. I already had a TAD7025 in V1 and putting another 7025 in V2 gave the amp more sack. Not a huge amount, but a tad more.
I bought a set of Ruby EL34BHT tubes to replace all of the power tubes since I had a pair of Shugang El34s that I put in it until I could buy a full set. Love the BHTs.

The TAD 7025 tubes are just relabeled JJECC83s I think. I put a JJECC83s I had laying around in V2 also and it sounded the same as the TAD 7025. They are also a little taller than a normal 12AX7. I may be wrong, but just saying.

I believe the actual TAD 7025S is a TAD specific make - unlike their 12AX7's which are indeed re-brands. Attached below are two close up's of the 2 in question, the internal construction of the two is quite different, not just the logo on the outside.

I remember having this conversation with my tube supplier who's a nut when it comes to glass - he said the TAD 7025S are an entirely different animal than anything else out there...but that pretty well all the "other" TAD's were simply rebrands of already established companies' glass.

Maybe I'm out to lunch, but it's been something that's always had me

I remember Peter and I spoke about this too - can't remember the conversation or in what context it came about, but he wanted to know how my V sounded with a full complement of TAD 7025S and was quite definite in making sure they were 7025S and not just 12AX7. Needless to say, at that time with the VH4 amp I had (2002 model I believe), it kicked tremendous ass. Might be different in the Herbert. And for the record, I'm using high grade Chinese in my VH4S (2009) now with ZERO complaints.

Peace,
V.
