Well, I’ve been looking for another Peavey Wolfgang but they have priced through the roof for a while now. I finally said fuck it I am going to try an HP2 out. I finally found one which arrived. Few days ago. It has an interesting story behind it, and it plays amazing ! Neck shape is nice as well. The pickups leave a lot to be desired but that’s fine by me. I want Aldrich pups in the guitar anyways. Any questions feel free to ask ...

man these are stunning guitars...and for USA built are priced nicely IMO. i too have been gassing for another WG...and have been looking at the HP2's heavily.

Question for you...i saw one review video on YT and the guy was showing his had an "orange peel" effect, or what looked like very teeny-tiny air bubbles in the finish. now it could've been just the one he had...dunno. and of course it doesn't affect the tone/operation of the guitar (i'd imagine).

Thanks and HNGD!

Wow ! That is just gorgeous looking.
I've also considered the HP a few times and agree about the Wolfe being priced out of the park..

Awesome guitar. Congrats.
Now I have to go look at these. Lol

Congrats man! I got a solid black one a year ago, and it's in my every day rotation. They really are an NOS Wolfgang. The neck is still the EVH asymmetrical profile, and is comfortable and fast as hell. There are a few minor differences like the pickup orientation -- in the WGs, the neck was hotter than the bridge, per Ed's preference, whereas in the HP2 the bridge is hotter. I really like the ability to split to single coils as well. And they changed the 3 way pickup selector back to a more traditional down/bridge up/neck (which I actually don't like). Still, I'll catch hell for this, but I really kind of think it's an overall improved Wolfie.

Speaking of the pickups, and I thought about changing them but just never got around to it. However, the neck pup in particular has really started to grow on me, especially with it split.

Have fun with it, they are great guitars!

Nice score! I have a moonburst.
The pickups are solid for Rock, but I like more aggressive stuff and really don't want the split options....any recommendations for pickups? I do like BK but willing to take a look at most brands. Prefer to get a company that custom shapes the tritabs so it will fit.

Sweet. What is the story behind it?

after speaking to some peavey experts, they think it may be one of the NAMM display guitars. the deep ocean finish is more of a green at the horns, whereas this one is just more like a faded blue. deep ocean also does not have the black burst edges, but this one does. its almost like this guitar was a mix of the moonburst, and deep ocean finishes ... but the build sheet and COA say it was done in an ocean burst. its also right around the same serial number as some of the other namm guitars from 2018. just heresay mainly, but very plausible as well

suhr Aldrich pups drop right in. they have the right mounting tabs and everything. I have a set in an older wolfgang and love them. I am most likely going to go back with an Aldrich set for this guitar. they are very hot but still clean up nicely if need be.

 I may go for that! Always heard good things about those up and never tried them

Not to be a debbie downer, but I had looked at the HP2 a year ago. My GC had 2 or 3 in stock as well as 2 BFR EBMM Axis’s and an EVH Wolfgang standard. The HP2’s top blew the others away but it didn’t feel well put together. The neck had noticeable fret sprout and the neck shape if the ebmm was more for me. I really wanted to like the pv, but I didn’t.

Glad it works for you

The neck shape is identical to the PV WG as far as I can feel it- which is damn near perfect for me.
