After playing with the prototype and pre-production models a couple of times over the last six months, I was finally able to buy the new Krankshaft from KRANK.
I used it at rehearsal last night and am ecstatic about how well it works. My intended purpose for this pedal is to boost the signal on the lead channel to get a more gainy, sustainy, squeally, feedback-y kind of dynamic going for soloing. I did not want to be dialed in to this type of tone for rhythms, I really like the crisp, articulate sound of the Revolution Krank channel, it is exceptional at cleaning up the mud in the mix during live performances, however, I felt that I needed the amp to feel a little looser and wilder for solos.
I had been using a Maxon OD808 and it worked well. The new Krankshaft however, completely blows away the Maxon and Ibanez pedals I have used before.
My settings are:
OUTPUT: 9
TONE: 5
GAIN: 1.5
With these settings on the Krankshaft, using it with the Krank channel, I get a sound that is quite close to my 5150, except clearer; being able to distinguish individual tones in two or three note chords used in certain lead passages.
I tried the Krankshaft with these settings on the Kleen channel and I got a bright, soaring tone like modern country western Tele leads.
The EQ was completely unaffected with the TONE control in this position. I did not try any other settings, I just dialed it in to boost the leads.
This pedal has a true bypass switch as well.
The only negative is that you could potentially be blinded by the bright green LED when the effect is on.
If you are using a tube screamer to boost the front end of a tube amp, I would highly recommend trying the new Krankshaft from KRANK.
