After playing with the prototype and pre-production models a couple of times over the last six months, I was finally able to buy the new Krankshaft from KRANK.
I used it at rehearsal last night and am ecstatic about how well it works. My intended purpose for this pedal is to boost the signal on the lead channel to get a more gainy, sustainy, squeally, feedback-y kind of dynamic going for soloing. I did not want to be dialed in to this type of tone for rhythms, I really like the crisp, articulate sound of the Revolution Krank channel, it is exceptional at cleaning up the mud in the mix during live performances, however, I felt that I needed the amp to feel a little looser and wilder for solos.
I had been using a Maxon OD808 and it worked well. The new Krankshaft however, completely blows away the Maxon and Ibanez pedals I have used before.
My settings are:
OUTPUT: 9
TONE: 5
GAIN: 1.5
With these settings on the Krankshaft, using it with the Krank channel, I get a sound that is quite close to my 5150, except clearer; being able to distinguish individual tones in two or three note chords used in certain lead passages.
I tried the Krankshaft with these settings on the Kleen channel and I got a bright, soaring tone like modern country western Tele leads.
The EQ was completely unaffected with the TONE control in this position. I did not try any other settings, I just dialed it in to boost the leads.
This pedal has a true bypass switch as well.
The only negative is that you could potentially be blinded by the bright green LED when the effect is on.
If you are using a tube screamer to boost the front end of a tube amp, I would highly recommend trying the new Krankshaft from KRANK.

Well, I haven't heard of that one, but really, after trying a couple of "industry standard" boost pedals, the Krankshaft seems to be completely transparent and seems to have the most boost. I instantly heard a large difference in sound quality over the other three pedals I had tried to boost with. It was easy to quickly dial in what I wanted it to do, and to me the most important part was that the feel while playing it was incredible! It didn't feel like a pedal at all, the tube amp reactiveness was very natural.

After using the BB Preamp for a while i won't be buying another Tube Screamer, probably ever. The Power Screamer looks cool though.

The BB Preamp is the way to go in my book. Love mine big time.

I got one recently as well Dan. Are you using it with the Mark IV or what other amp? Also, do you still have that 4x12 or are you just running a 2x12 nowadays?

I have an Avatar vintage 2x12 with H30's and I'm borrowing Paiges markIV right now :D . I bought a MarkIII that i had to send to Boogie.

Ummm. I always thought it was this:

Boost pedals are super useful but just don't give me as stiff a bone as most other new gear. I'll probably just stick with the usual suspects I already have or a GE-7 rather than kontribute to krank's kontinuation.

Oh nice...What happened to your Mark IV??

The sad thing in my experience is that every amp "needs" another boost

Giga.

When did you sell your soul to Krank Copperhead? They ought to give you something for the endorsements :D

My favorite tubescreamer type pedal is the MI audio blues boy deluxe. I do really like the maxon pedals though.

Well, I bought my used Revolution last November, figured it wouldn't hurt to retube it. I emailed them to see what they thought of a couple of different tubes I was looking at. Turns out that their price on the tubes was less than anywhere I could find them. So I brought it in and they retubed it and biased the amp. They saw a couple potential problems, as mine is an early, early production model, and changed some parts out and basically went through everything, spent about an hour on the amp.
They only charged me for the tubes. Do you get it? This a used amp..... I'm not the original owner, maybe not even the second owner.
Later on, I had a modification done, I had the Kleen channel modified to be the same as the one on the Krankenstein. I dropped it off and picked it up at the tech guy's house. While I was there, I mentioned the cable was going bad on the footswitch, so he gave me another one that he installed a TRS jack on that I could use a TRS cable with.
Total charge for mod and footswitch: $20.00
I bought a demo 2x12 cab from Krank, and they put new 8 ohm speakers in it so I could run it with my 16ohm Hotplate, and they put new feet and corners on it, and they found a matching chrome grill for it, I wish I could tell you what the cost was but you wouldn't believe me.
Every time I visited KRANK, I got to play with prototype products that haven't been announced or released yet, and they ask for my opinion. I've taken home stuff that you won't see until winter NAMM next year.
So basically I'm a nobody, just a weekend musician who bought a used amp of theirs. They didn't have to honor any warranty, let alone all the other stuff they do. And they make you feel "part of the family" by asking your opinion on stuff.
With their excellent customer service and mentality of support and involvement with musicians on all levels, they are building brand loyalty. No souls were involved in any transactions.

Sounds like a really cool company to deal with! But, please....tell me you aren't using a Hot Plate on a Krank rig....aye-karumba :aww: ...

hmmm I've been very intrested in the krank revolution but the problem is theres no where that I know of around me to try one and i can't seem to find a decent review for one because alot of people hate krank just because of the whole review thing
