I used the search function and haven't seen this mentioned yet. I'm usually behind the curve on newly announced gear so it feels weird to post about it, but Orange just came out with a new tube head, made in UK, and it looks pretty damn good. Even the price is really reasonable, $1799 new, and there's even a demo unit in stock already at Sweetwater. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/de...-30-watt-1-channel-tube-amplifier-head-orange

It's a 4x EL84 amp for 30 watts, cathode biased, and a tube 5AR4 rectifier, along with 4 preamp tubes.

Oh, and kind of a first for Orange, but it has footswitchable masters as well as a front panel 3-way bright switch. Otherwise the controls mirror amps like the OR50, gain, treble/middle/bass, and the "punch" control which is basically presence. I have an OR50 and consider it to be my favorite Orange right now, so the idea of this OR30 being similar except with minor differences (EL84 vs EL34, tube vs ss rectified, FX loop vs no fx) makes it really appealing to me.

It looks kind of like an AD30, Rocker 30, and OR50 all mashed up together in a way, and it seems plenty gainy too... oh, and a 2w "bedroom" setting from a switch on the back too. Kind of wish it had a switchable rectifier but now I'm nitpicking.

This guy can make anything sound incredible but here's a solid demo:

I had an OR15. Its a unique sounding amp, and I thought it was killer. Great for sludge, takes a boost well, and will do tight metal tones if you want that. The 15 had quite a bit of gain. Loved the simplicity.

I had one of these. I thought it sounded pretty good, but for my needs wasn’t necessary to keep, so I returned it. If you like the OR50 or other OR’s then I think there’s a good chance you’ll like it. It probably would be one of my favorite current made oranges and definitely good for the price too

I guess some things I can nitpick is you can still I think hear a little of the EL84 character, which can be great, but imo makes it seem just a bit less inherently metal to me. Also, while the amp is definitely not as artificial sounding as something like the Engl’s or a lot of other current made high gain amps, it still can come off kinda flat or just not as alive sounding as a vintage amp or some of the best current amps like a Wizard or Naylor, but overall I’d say pretty good

Yeah supposedly the OR15 is just the gain channel of the Rockerverb dropped into a single channel EL84 box. Great idea really. Quite a bit different from the OR50, though I’d love to know how similar (or not) the OR100 is compared to the Rockerverb or OR15.

It is a bit confusing… or15, or50, or80, or100, or120 are all very different amps - now add or30 to the list and it’s kind of hard to know what you are going to get.

Yeah, EL34's for me. I think the EL84's was one thing I didn't like.
