Hey Guys,

thought it was time to break the ice and stop lurking.

I just became the proud owner of a new PT100 with the solid state effect loop. Rob at Tone Merchants went to great lengths to ship it to me all the way to Singapore. The man certainly takes care of his customers!

There was no chance of trying such an amp over here so I had to put faith in everything I had read and all the youtube clips that are out there. Have to say it's everything I thought it would be, and more. It loves pedals in front of it, it takes line level gear perfectly - and I have never seen such an internationally friendly power supply!

It's a bit strange that for such a pricey and well thought out piece of hardware, you get a photocopied OD100 manual... Luckily all you need is ears to figure it all out. I am interested in the actual function of the Whomp switch though - anyone know exactly what it is doing?

Cheers,
Sean in Singapore

It works in the power section sort of like a simple hi pass circuit but it isnt typical at all. It is a filter that defeats the feedback of lower frequencies which in turn boosts them. It is focused much more than the typical depth controls work but works in the same place.

Hey Sean in Singapore,

I've had my PT100 in SG now since August last year so you could have tried mine! I play around quite a bit, my band is called Underbelly and I always use the PT100. We play at Muddy Murphys about 4 times a month...are you playing anywhere?

Whomp is to give you some low end chunk in low volume situations. I use a Mesa 2x12 with Whomp in the middle.

Best amp Ive ever owned. Tone beyond comprehension. Absolutely worth every penny.

Greg,

Interesting, I am playing it through a mesa 2x12 Rectifier cab as well, and my ears told me to keep the whomp switch on middle... nice.

Everyone,

Thanks for the explanation guys - I trust my ears but my brain always likes to check in and understand what's going on too ;-). I can't argue, this amp just continues to impress.
