Word has it you can put EL34's in these as well, but the manual makes no mention, and nobody's responded to my post on the Randall Forum I posted days ago.

Can anybody confirm? A user here said it was the case, but I want more input/confirmation, before I start messing around!

I know the RD50 will take just about any power tube. I would think the 45 is the same but don't quote me.

I love EL34's but in the RD50 I thought 6L6's sounded best. I also tried 6550's and KT88's.

I actually heard it from Delaney & Fortin on a youtube video, but can't find it..

Mike Fortin confim to me that you can do it with RD100H Diavlo so i think it the same for RD45 ...

YES. I am the US Product Specialist for Randall and you can take it from me. It is absolutely possible to do. Just needs to be rebiased but no other mods are necessary.

Rebiased? Is there an internal adjustment?

is the rd45 darker sounding than the marshall ? Thanks

I guess there's several factors.. Cabinet, guitar, etc. I would say it has it's own voice, closer to Mesa than Marshall. But, you can dial it in dark/mid heavy, whatever. I run the mids around 1:00. I dig it!

yes, you can use el34's, e34l's, kt77's, kt88's, 6v6's, kt66's and whatever regular guitar amp power tubes that fit in those sockets
the fortin modified rd50h didn't require any bias adjustments and came stock with jj e34l's
not sure if this one needs biasing
better pm Mike

my ex-fortin rd50h had a diezelish gain texture,
I'd compare it with the 50w einstein, but without the diezel wall of midrange and less oversaturated
I wouldn't say it sounds anything like a mesa or marshall
it has the flatter voicing of a tube randall, but the articulation and grainy texture of a real fortin
reminded me of some clips of the bones and natas, but less marshall-like
best sounding high gain amp in the price range, along with the JCA50H, but with better features, finish and construction than jet cities
I had to sell mine to a friend (who's in love with it now), but I intend to order the rd40c 112 combo around christmas

it sounded best with v30's and also with my greenback-based mg music black dogs (weber parts, same as the silver bells, but with aluminum basket)
didn't enjoy it as much with my scumback h75's (gets a little too bassy and not midrangy enough)

It does need biasing, I found the bias adjustment screws after pulling it apart last night. I didn't, however, find any test points. So, I need to get a dual bias probe. I suppose I could do one at a time, but that would be a major pain in the ass.

How hard is it? You find the hotter tube and bias that one.

You bias one, the other goes hot, or cold, then you go back and forth. Drives you nuts. I got a dual probe ordered, as well as JJ 6L6's. I'll do it right.

I think the rd50h didn't have a trimpot
the manual stated it didn't need any adjustment
they probably used a medium setting so it would work with any type
