New Rebel 20 tubes

I just picked up a rebel 20 sunday and just had some questions. It was new in the box when I got it, and when I set up and fired it up it was making some crackling/popping noises. I played around with it for a while and couldn't get it to go away. I let it sit for day and tried it out again last night with the same result. After let it sit for about an hour it started to get better, and now it seems fairly normal sounding. One thing I noticed when checking out the tubes is that the writing on the EL84 tube to the right almost looks like it was burnt. It's not red it's more of a grey. I didn't know if this was normal or not. I've had issues with GC in the past so I thought I would just see if all this is normal or if I have or had a tube issue at all. The amp sounds amazing and the quality is outstanding. Thanks in advance for any answers.

The first thing to check if you're hearing snap, crackles, and pops is the tubes. 99.999999% sure that's what the problem is.

Pics would be really helpful, if you could snap a pic of one of the tubes in question.

Egnater warranties the tubes for 90 days. Just get in touch with them and they will likely send you some new ones. My 4212 did this and they sent me new pre-amp tubes which cured it. I had to send them a scan of my receipt.

It is overwhelmingly likely that this problem is caused a faulty tube or tubes. Tubes can be freaky beasts- I wouldn't blame GC or Eggie for something like this.

Thanks everyone for all the info, I really appriciate it. No one is to blame at all, I know tubes can be touchy, I've just had some issues with dealing with GC and the warranties they push not the products they sell. Thanks again!

Skip GC and just go right to Egnater. They'll take care of it. I got Jeff Hilligan's attention on this board and he helped me out.

I'm going to give them a call tomorrow. I was using it again tonight and it started making some weird sounds. Best way to describe it would be like a very scratched record. Almost like dirty pots or a bad chord. It would go a way for a while and then come back. Thanks again for everyone's input

Hey Guys, we're all in Germany at the Music Messe show so no one is able to answer a phone. The problem sounds like a power tube. If it went away all probably is OK. New tubes sometimes will burn off impurities when first played. I try to spend enough time testing and burning in to fix this but maybe one got through or maybe the tube just got banged up in shipping. Either way keep us in the loop and be patient, we will be back next week. Feel free to email me at john@egnateramps.com
