So I just picked up a Rebel 30 head. I must say I am very impressed with the sound. Very nice. Sounds expensive :D

Going to put it through its paces more tomorrow playing with a band but so far I really dig it. One thing that I noticed is that it does seem to have just a little bit of a noise floor, not talking gainy noise, but even on the clean channel, just a little bit of white noise. Wonder if putting in possibly quieter tubes may help, or if its just what it is, like the JC-120. Brining up the channel volume helps to overcome this. When putting my Gsystem in the loop it also adds to it a little bit. Nothing deal breaking or something I am worried about, but if there are suggestions to get this any quieter, then cool.

Love the sound, My efx never sounded better through the EFX loop also

Glad I picked this amp.

Sure is a great amp/ I bought one as a back up for my MOD 50 and came close to converting my rig all the way to the Rebel 30. If I find the right combination of pedals to get the 5 or 6 tones I need to do my gig I may still go there. I didn't notice the noise floor so much. Congrats on the amp, good move!

cool, I just played it with a band and man I am happy. got some really nice chimey cleans which I stayed on for a bit, and I hardly ever play clean. and the drive was nice and warm. Just used my volume on my guitar to dial in different shades of drive. Works very well with the volume knob. May pick up a pedal or so to make it a 3rd channel. Still has just a tiny bit of a noise floor, but I am often very sensitive when it comes to any sort of noise. Just playing around, its barely there, and seems to be more there on the clean. But its very minute. I also need to balance out my efx unit's volume as that also added just a tad more noise, which it usually never does.

But the efx loop sounds so good on this amp. My efx have never sounded better.

Great Amp Bruce! cheeers

Don't you own or are a fan of Blackstar amps? If so, you should try one of their pedals in front of the clean channel. I have the HT-DIST and I love it in front of the clean channel of the Renegade. It took some tweaking, but once I got it in the ballpark it has sounded really good.

I had and loved the HT-5 head, so yes, I quite dug it. I actually had the newer blackstar amp on backorder, but it got pushed back, and I ran out of patience and bought the rebel 30. No regrets yet. I would mainly be looking for a pedal to just give some good slight breakup, and use the 2nd channel for leads and more gain.

Oh, I thought you might have been suggesting a different kind of channel. I'm digging the HT-DIST a lot. I'm not sure how close it is to the HT-5 head, but it works well to get the amp into heavier, more saturated, modern kind of territory.

I've not tried the Rebel 30 but my impression is that it doesn't have quiet the gain as the Renegade.

The Rebel 30 has just enough gain, its perfect. I can even get my strat into singing leads with the Rebel 30, humbucking gets there much quicker. So it has plenty gain for me. So I am not too concerned with gain, though The gain channel works for heavier stuff, though not perfect, something like the ht pedal I am sure would help add another flavor. I may have to go try out a few and pick one.

Oh I don't use anywhere all the gain available on the gain channel of the Renegade. It's has ample gain on tap. If the Rebel 30 has 2/3rds of the gain as the Renegade, then it's still got plenty of gain. ;)

I was saying it was bad or anything, just that in terms of gain available the Rebel is less than the Renegade.

If you liked the HT-5, you should try out the HT-DIST, or possibly even HT Dual, in front of the Rebel's clean channel. It's been a long time since I've had an amp like that and I was super happy with everything the Renegade did, BUT, I still wanted something with that could fairly heavy saturated, big bottom end modern thing. The HT-DIST did just the trick for me. So yeah, it made it a 3 channel amp of which all channels will satisfy whatever hair I have that day. :D

Anyways, that's what I thought you was talking about and I thought I remembered you were a fan of the Blackstars.....the HT-DIST might be a cheap option to get one anyways. :)

I also have a 30 and yes I have some white noise on the clean side. It is not too loud but if I am standing within 3 feet or so I can hear it. I have been told it is tubes but I have not gotten around to changeing them, otherwise I love the am so much I bought a used rebel 20 for at home.

I just put a tung sol in V1 ( I think, its hard to know the layout), and it made the clean channel quieter.

Thanks for the sugestion. I have a whole new set of tubes I ordered and should be here soon, I am sure it will fix the problem.
