Hey guys,

New to the forum. I got a Renegade a few months ago and just wanted to say what a fantastic amp it is. My band plays all styles from Miles and Herbie, to Robben Ford and Hendrix and it just kills it on all of those styles. The clean is really shimmery and the lead tone is just sweet and woody. It seems like such a very "musical" sounding amp. Not harsh or thin. I've gotten so many compliments already from both my band members and audiences.

I retubed it will JJ's in preamp and JJ 6l6's and KT-77's in the power amp. The 77's sound much nicer in this amp than the EL34's to my ears. I run the head through an Avatar 2x12 with V30's.

I must admit, reading everything about the MOD50 on this forum has me thinking about that down the road...Must be GAS I guess...

Thanks to Bruce for designing such a great product...

Howie

Yeah. The more I play my Renegade, the more I like it. And I liked it when I bought it...

Welcome, hisclimb !I still have my Rebel20 but i bought a Renegade head a few months ago and i'm really happy,it's such a great amp !

Mine is still with the stock tubes but i know i will try some others at some point..The KT77's have been a real blessing for my M&B Nomad55 but i'm not sure if the Renegade needs it.Right now,i'm still trying to find a digital Voltmeter capable of measuring in the 100 to 200 millivolts DC range !In the shops around here, the minimum was 200 mV (as written on the pack..) and the dealers couldn't help..Do you know where i could find one (a link, maybe ?)?

What I have found too, is that when I play the amp at home it sounds good alone. But when I'm gigging, it sounds incredible in the mix. It seems to really stand out and cut through really well amongst the various instruments...I think this is what I'm most impressed with...

Most other amps I've played sound great alone but then seem to get lost or sound like a horde of buzzing mosquitoes in the mix with the rest of the band :aww:

I've noticed the exact same thing. They're twice the amp in the mix.

Just picked up renegade head a few weeks ago. Running through a VooDoo 212 w/V30's and an M13 wired 4CM. Almost exclusively using the clean channel and M13 Tube Drive [modeled after Chandler tube driver] for dirt and expression pedal to control gain. I love what this amp is doing but would like to work in channel 2. Anyone have some suggestions? My ch 2 is G12, B3, M9, T3, T12, V2, 18W, Tight, Bright. My density and \presence are at 10, My main 1 is at 11 and I use a HO attenuator as an overall master volume.

Hisclmb, I would like to hear your thoughts and are you happy with the tube switch? back in 15

Curious why you're using an attenuator for overall volume...Channel 2 seems really nice and organic to me straight up, no attenuation. Maybe that might be doing something weird to your channel two tone?

I usually set the tube mix 100% KT-77 for a little more plexi/bark quality to the tone. 50/50 sounds pretty good too but 99% of the time I'm all KT-77. I set the power switch to 18w about half the time if I want a little more compressed sound and to 65w if I want it more open and dynamic sounding. Whether or not I have the bright switch on depends upon the tune. If it's jazz/fusion I set it to normal. If I want more of a edge for something bluesy/Hendrixy, I most likely kick in the bright switch. 99% of the time I set to tight.

Gain: 12-1 o'clock, Bass: 12-3, Treble: 12-3, Middle: 12-1, Volume: 2-3 Presence:12, Density: 11-12. Everything varies a bit depending on the tune and the room and of course my mood :)

Is there something in particular your going for and are not getting out of channel 2?

Howie

New amp so just tweaking to taste and reading about various tubes guys are using. The Ho is a very transparent box and has a plexi switch which is cool. Allows me to drive the power tubes and maintain a volume level.

cool and thanks for the reply, Let's talk again. If you skype, pm me.

cool...I hope to record some clips when I have time and post them...

interesting on your tube mix, is that for ch2 only?

Yep, for channel two. Channel one is all 6L6.

Me too. 100% 6l6 for clean. 100% el34 for dirty. It accentuates each channels character that much more. Mixing the tubes sounds fine, I just feel like I lose character.

Thanks.I got one now.Dealers (& i) made a mistake, :when you set the range to 200mV,you can read up to 200mV....so,it was ok ;) .About biasing (Renegade),do you have to put all the controls on 0 ?Even the Tone knobs like Treble,Bass etc.?

The manual says to turn all the controls down so I would assume yes, even the eq knobs...

Too bad.... Thanks :) !I'm very interested to check the bias; i wouldn't be surprised if the 5885's were a bit cold...We'll see! And,of course,i want to try various tubes. The 1° will be the KT77's,since i have some lying around already + various 6L6's,EL34's & 6V6's...

Good idea  !I would like to hear your ch2 with KT77's and your ch1 with JJ6L6's !

So is the KT-77 worth the mod? Seems like alot of people are doing it. Thanks for the settings Howie, worked CH2 in nicely with my Charvel which has the Jackson active pups. Can't believe I bought this guitar 37 years ago.....

Model Number:1987 Model 6
J200 (two) Dual Coil, Bi-level HB
Model Number: J50BC (one)

Not to alarm you but......I bought a bunch of $10 meters for our amp classes a couple of years ago , NOT FROM EUROTUBES. They turned out to be quite inaccurate, even for a digital meter. You may want to find a friend or ?? who has a good meter to compare accuracy before trusting it. Please do not go back to Eurotubes and say Bruce Egnater says your meter is junk. It may be just fine.
