This is a "Re-Issue" pedal. The originals were Blue & Purple. The originals were a little noisy too. The new one seems dead quiet.

$499

And big as a house :scared:

I had one of the original blue Superchargers as an alternative to lugging around my SLO back in the day. It was a cool little (I should say big) pedal that had a huge amount of gain on tap. Slapping this sucker in front of non-master volume amp (a plexi was my favorite) turned it into an instant fire breather.

The noise issues that a lot of people complained about with the originals were due to the placement of power transformer housed inside the pedal. It looks like Mike has addressed those issues by going with an external PT. The noise wasn't actually all that bad on my pedal, but I actually had James Peters tweak mine and he got it quieted down about as much as you could expect from a high gain tube pedal. Fun fact - James Peters is high gain in a small package.

Honestly anybody expecting the GTO to be an SLO in a box (a large box at that) is going to be disappointed. I was more impressed with the actual pedal construction with its billet aluminum sides than its tone. It was really built nicely, but it couldn't hold a candle to my Hot Chili Tubester. That thing had just as much gain on tap, was dead silent and had this magic tone imparting quality about it that made any amp that you stuck in front of sound instantly better. My GTO is long gone (sold it about 2 years ago), but I still have the Tubester, which is weird since I don't own any tube amps anymore.

Really? Soldano says in the video that the GTO is the preamp of the SLO-100 in a pedal. I have no experience with the GTO pedal, but I think it would be a great idea if amp manufacturers started making their preamps in pedal enclosures, along with the 12ax7s.

I like the tone of the evh 5150 overdrive that Pete thorn has been doing clips for.

It's based on the SLO preamp, but it's not the exact same thing. The Hot Rod series of amps, the Avenger. the 3rd channel of the Decatone, etc. are all supposed to be the "SLO preamp". That proclamation has really turned into a marketing slogan for Soldano.

And he really doesn't have to do that. Most players with ears and a brain know that only the SLO sounds like an SLO, the Deca like a Deca, the HR like a HR, the ROS like the ROS, etc., etc. The different products that he makes all have their own thing going on, and they all sound great for what they are and what they do. Just go with that.

From what I've read and been told, Diezel and Friedman won't make rack or pedal preamps because their amps sounds depend heavily on their interactions with the power sections.

I love Soldano's. The Hot Rod 25 I have is just amazing. Not a big fan of the sound of that pedal in that clip though. IMO most Soldano's don't really need anything pushing them. They sound great exactly the way they are.
