LOL, touché.Oh, yeah! They're pushing the boundaries of Metal nowadays!
AFAIK, block letter 5150 with a Recto cab that's a serial number apart from Andy Sneap's, LOL. Maxon OD808, more than likely, and Fishman Fluence Moderns. 57 for sure with maybe a little 421 blended in.Sounds great!
Anybody know what the recording rigs were?
I'm pretty sure Josh used his Recto cab that he got from Nolly. But I bet there will be a vid going over the chain further down the line.I’m mixing one of the tracks on this right now for fun, pretty good time. The tone is solid for sure. I’m using my morin modded Marshall on it and it’s fucking sickkkk sounding already. This record totally sounds like he used 75s to me, even though I’m pretty sure there’s zero chance he actually did. Sure sounds like it though.

Pretty standard Metal stuff which I'm sure many people will be mad about, LOL.
OMGz! So generic!
LOL.
I guess I'm growing old. I'm a big fan of 90's Swedish Melodeath and then 2000's Swede-inspired Metalcore I guess?in 2006 i would have loved this, now though i dont know
I think there's a ton of ways of dialing in a 5150. Especially as far as pairing them with different cabs. Machine head sounds NOTHING like The Haunted to me, for example.lol thanks!
You know, about that rig, what a lot of people call the "industry standard" metal rig... I don't think guitar tones can be "generic." Guitar parts can be generic, but not guitar tones themselves. Nobody ever says a standard violin, bass, piano, or even acoustic guitar tone sounds "generic." That's just what those instruments sound like, and guitar isn't much different. If something is well executed, it's going to be good, and tone is just one component of that. If a 5150, Recto cab, and good boost makes for a kickass metal tone, then that's what you're going to get when you use it, a kickass metal tone, and I see no reason to change it.
I do see reason for metal guitarists to write more interesting, less stock sounding riffs, and maybe something different than the standard metal song structure, but the tones themselves are fine.

I have his IR's from that cab and they're by far my most favoritest IR's ever.

Kinda got stuck in that moment in time as far as tones go. For me, the apex of metal tone is Colin Richardson and Fredrik Nordstrom doing their things in the 90's and then Andy Sneap in the 2000's.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I read that in a few places. Nolly mentioned it. Ermin Hamidovic mentioned it. Not sure if Josh mentioned it as well. They are pretty good! I’m a fan of them as well. I’m trying not to use them or his tonality suite on this though, because I know everyone else for sure will be. I’ve got some cool shit and I’d really like to do something unique but still catch the vibe of the track. A lot harder than many think I’m realizing. Might try the recto with the morin first, or something super saturated like the 5150( it really does just work, doesn’t it?) but we will see.
Is it true that cab he loves and is his number one is one number off from sneaps? Pretty wild, not sure I read that. They do sound good though!
Oh, I will! Thanks! Also fyi, I emailed fredrik on Facebook about getting IR’s from him and if that was possible. He gladly sent me 6 or 7, all done by him, with two of them being his legendary Engl cab that he’s used on all of his groundbreaking albums. And yes, with the ole “ Nordstrom” technique on all of the cabs. The others are his EVH cab, a greenback loaded Marshall cab, a Hughes and Kettner, and one labeled “double fredman” that I believe is the Marshall and EVH cab together. Give him a shout..
lol thanks!
