I currently have an Egnater M4 preamp that I play through a VHT 2/50/2 and Bogner OS 2x12. I also have an Axe Fx Standard that I run in stereo through a Carvin DCM150 and CAA 1x12 cubes.

I prefer smoother, darker, high-gain tones. For some reason, I've been gassing for something new and among other amps, the Einstein is one of them. As long as the clean channel is OK, I'm more concerned with the drive channel. Is this an aggressive modern amp? Vintage? In between?

Anyone have one for sale or trade?

Thanks.

Dave

All I can tell you is this: once you get that power amp really driving your OS 212, you'll know why they call it a Diezel. There is magic in Diezels' power sections.

It's definitely not vintage.

I just got one last week and have only had a couple of hours messing with it and I can definately say it's probably the best sounding amp I have owned so far. Over the years I have had a JCM 800, Mesa .50 Cal, 5150, Mesa Single Rec, Dual Rec, Splawn Competition, Egnater Seminar Amp, Diamond Spec Op and a CAA SE+. The Einstein can get very modern sounding but they way I have it set up, it has some vintage flavor to it. I use it on channel 1, Mode 3 and have not even fooled around with the other modes or channel 2. The bottom-end can get friggin brutal, to the point of I'm afraid it might waste the vintage 30's in my Mesa 2x12   It reacts well to different pickups, which I love. For instance, my les paul has an Aldrich in the bridge and sounds the most aggressive. My frankenstrat has an evh '78 and it sounds the most "brown" but has a tighter, chunkier bottom end than the less paul. I thought that was interesting since the '78 is a lower output pickup. Anyway, go test one out if you can. That's what I did 'cause I'm sick of buying amps without playing them. For me the Einstein was exactly what I was looking for. I'm gonna try and post some clips but like I said go check one out if you can.

I always have Diezel things for sale ;)

Seriously

The Einstein can cover some major tonal ground and do so very very well. I feel the clean channel is brilliant and the gain is very good and versatile. It is more organic sounding then the VH4 or Herbert IMO. The Einstein has more sag then the Herbert and the VH4 while the VH4 is definitely the fastest of the bunch. I wrote an in depth review on the various Diezel amp models a few months ago. I can promise you that you would be hard pressed not to like the Einstein. Everything responds wonderfully (pre amp section/power amp section) the EQ is fantastic and it is incredibly versatile. The power section is amazing and the amp can take a pedal nicely though I am not a fan of adding pedal's to amps. For an amp having the ability to go so high gin, the Diezel amps are very quiet compared to other amps out there. If you have further questions, please ask me and I will do my best to help you.

Thanks D. I like hearing that it's quiet for a high gainer.

What is footswitchable on the Einstein? Besides channels of course? Are there other modes on each channel and are they foot-switchable? Reverb? Etc.

Thanks a ton.

The Einstein heads (50 or 100 watt) do not have reverb. The 50 watt Einstein combo does have reverb. The channels are switchable via foot switch which comes with the amp. There are 3 modes per channel. Those modes are not foot switchable. There is a mod available that can make the modes foot switchable if you feel you need that. Based on how the channels are set up with the two master volumes and the way the modes are set up, it very well may not be necessary. I always advise to get the amp and spend time with it first to see if the mod is indeed necessary for your needs as a player. If so, a mod can be done. Hope this helps.

If you're in Euroe, hit me with a PM, I'm selling my 50w Einstein Head. :)

hehe Sorry Terry, but I've explained this before :aww:

I honestly think I can nail everything I want from the diezel tone with the VH4

Aye, good review. HC has it's positive sides occasionally!

The amp has a fantastic clean and mode 3 is great. I don't really do the lead thing very much so have only used Ch1 for a thicker tone. Good stuff, & I prefer it over the VH4.
