I am new to the forum and also a new Egnater owner...

I just purchased a used 4212 TM from GC..

I am having a few issues...

First - The foot switch is not working correctly.I have the switch on the back of the amp set to (Foot switch) and when you try to switch from the clean channel 1 to the clean channel 2 it doesn't work. It does the same thing on the overdrive channels.. However, when I press the reverb switch on the foot switch it allows me to switch to the clean channel 2 but not the overdrive channel.. It has the original foot switch and cable... BAD cable? That would be to easy....

Second - I am running a Gibson Les Paul traditional and the amp is really buzzing... I don;t know if it has the original tubes or not.... Would new tubes help to get rid of the buzzing? What tubes do you guys recommend? I play alot of blues, 70's and 80's rock..

I don't know much about electronics so taking apart the foot switch is not a good idea unless I have a picture of what I need to fix....

I emailed Egnater but, I never got a response...

Thanks for any help you guys can give me...

The footswitch could be the cable, and you can replace that, but it might be the switch itself. Mine did a similar thing and Egnater replaced it. I would contact either john@egnateramps.com or nate@egnateramps.com about that.

For the buzzing, it could be tubes, but frankly I would try a different cable and a different guitar first and see what that does- Let's make sure it is the amp. If that doesn't fix it, it could be tubes, but try to isolate it down a little bit. You may not need to replace all of them. Is it on all channels or only one, for example? Does the effects loop affect it?

Re: the buzzing, does the amp buzz when nothing(no guitar or cables) is connected to it and the amp is in play mose, not standby? If not, maybe there is a grounding problem with your guitar.

Did it buzz at GC? (maybe you couldn't hear it over the drone of all the noise in the store). You could also have some noise in your outlets. When I play my amp in the basement, there's some buzz. Upstairs, no buzz. At my house gig, no buzz. Point being, try plugging in to different outlets in different rooms.

As far as the foot switch, did it work at GC? maybe you have some recourse with them to replace it assuming they sold it in functional condition...

Just some food for thought.

I turned the four power grid switches to 50 watts and the buzzing seems to have stopped... The amp has so much power I don;t think I would ever need to put it on full power even, when playing live...

As far a s the foot switch I would like to buy a new one. Any suggestions on where to order one? Does Egnater have a place to order parts?

If I where to replace the tubes any suggestions on what to put in there? Or should I just replace with the same stock tubes.. assuming that it has stock tubes in it now..

The amp was owned by a professional musician that used it on the road.. It's in perfect shape and doesn't look like it was used a lot.. Even the foot switch looks new it just doesn't work properly..

I am amazed ever time I plug this amp in.. The sound possibilities are endless....

Any suggestions on which smaller Egnater amp to buy for lugging around to practice? GC is having a 15% off sale this saturday and I am thinking of picking up another one....

Thanks for the help

Jeff

If cutting it down to 50 watts fixes it, that might be the power tubes. I would still get it fixed- Why have a problem? Could be a bad part or connection.

I never went crazy over the tubes- I always found that a good set of properly biased GT's worked fine.

My footswitch had an internal problem that you couldn't see. I would still get in touch with Egnater. They might just replace it, or tell you how to fix it.

Egnater makes the 15 watt Tweaker and 30 watt Rebel combos. Gotta be the best grab and go amps on the planet!

Well I finally got my TM back from the repair shop. (45 day's later)

I got it home plugged it in started to play.....

Switched to channel 2.... Played for about 2 minutes.. Tried to turn up the volume.. and then NOTHING!!!!!! UGHHHHHH

Switched to channel 1 (Works fine) Channel 3 (works fine) Channel 4 (Works fine)

Back to channel 2 Big Fat NOTHING>>>>>>>>

Called Guitar center... Manger says bring it back and we can send it out again or you can have back a full refund.....

Hard decision!!!!!!! I really liked the amp for the 10 minutes I got to use it.....

I returned it and got a refund.......

Played a new Rebel 30 and a renegade..... Left empty handed...... Really liked the Rebel 30.... Just a little gun shy now....

Wow such a shame. Ive had no problems with mine so think its a great amp, but I can imagine how annoying it can be for someone having problems like you are having/had. Hard to remain confident about things.
Shame the tech or the store didnt test it thoroughly before telling you it was ready.

that sux man. really sorry to hear about it.

im kinda avoiding playing mine now too. I LOVE the sound of it, and like you said, the possibilities are endless, but, im just paranoid that something's gonna happen.

i traded my mesa heartbreaker that i barely ever used for the TM 4212.

i might just take the hit and trade it in at GC for the money or towards something else before something does happen, as the amp is mint otherwise.. im just wary that something's gonna happen. HATE that feeling. love the amp, but HATe that feeling..and reading your recent post made me even more leery.

I would have exchanged it for a new one. Clearly this one was just no good. I continue to explore mine, and I have never had any issue like this. I am kind of getting into darker tones, which is unusual for me. The low gain input is neat.

You have had a sucky experience, but I would just go get another one.

clearly im on the fence.
what to do!

i REALLY want an ENGL preamp, and i might just get it too...then go from there.

HUMPTY DUMPTY WAS PUSHED!

Like him, maybe you need to be pushed?

Why not put it to the test?

Success or failure, it;'ll get you off the fence...

My 2 cents.

:scared:

Still not sure what I am going to do!!!

I really liked the amp a lot ,,,

might try out a Rebel 30... GC will take it back if I don't like it...

There is a used TM on Ebay right now going for cheap...

See if they will tak back what you got and give you a new Tourmaster.

No harm in asking!

Len,

They took back the Tm and refunded me the full price.. I bought it used for $800.00 with a brand new road case...

I could buy a new one for around $1200.00 I just don't think I want to put out the extra cash for that particular amp..

I am currently looking for a used JPM or JCM 800. I have an older 4x12 cab that has been sitting around and I may as well put it to use...

the rebel 30 is still in the running...

Used. That was the problem. You don't know what the prior owner did or why they returned it. GC doesn't really check stuff out much when they get stuff in.
