Hey everyone...I'm new to the board and anxious to get some of my gear listed, photoed, and hope to get some clips posted as soon as I can.

So I picked up a second hand Uberschall Rev. Blue last night and I'm interested in hearing some opinions on tube selection both power and preamp. I've always been a fan of TAD power but I don't want to over do the low end and for preamps I've always like my tung-sols (albeit the fact they never seem to give me a ton of life). I play in two hardcore bands so I'm always on my second channel and just noodle with clean here and there.

Thanks,
Jonny Mac

In my old Uber, I ran SED Winged C's in it. The Uber puts out over 500V and I know the SED's will take the punishment plus they compliment the heavy bottom end. Preamp tubes don't affect it too much. Reinhold is a fan of Sovtek 12AX7's, so I just went with them. I usually run a Sovtek LPS in V1 just to quieten it down a bit. Your TAD's are Mullard designed tubes and may not work best in the Uber. And, it doesn't require that fine of a tube. He used to ship Sovtek EL34's in the power section too. Not sure about the new ones.

But, that Uber is gone. Got a new Twin Jet here. It came with a full compliment of unmarked Chinese 12AZ7B's in the preamp and KT88's.

Thanks for the info. I had a friend tell me the SED Winged C's as well so I'll give those a go. As far as the preamps go, I read on a harmony central review that the head was very responsive to changes which came as a surprise to me where I've only noticed a substantial difference putting a 5751 in trying to hush my 5150. Again, thanks for the advice...I'm going to take it on putting the Sovtek LPS in to quiet it down a bit. What a mean amp...I'm loving it.

You wont go wrong with the SED's. Get a matched quad. I made it easy on myself and just run them in all my amps. Makes it easy to order tubes. Although, their popularity has driven the price up over the last couple years. But, they are reliable and its best to stick with the enemy you know!

As far as preamp tubes go, you will hear lots of options and it really comes down to personal favorites. I usually put an LPS in V1 of about every amp I own.

Hell, even JJ's sound good in an Uber. It pays though to invest in a better tube for V1 as it will keep the hiss away with the high gain.
