Hey Everyone,
I bought a Tourmaster 4100 head from guitar center. I love it! I requested ordering a new one in a box, rather than taking the floor model. When I got it home I noticed that the reverb does not work at all. Everything else works great. I usually get my reverb from my multi fx, but I still want a 100% working amp. They told me to check the reverb tube and it looks like its working fine. Is there anything else I can check? Heres my other question...I can have them get me another amp, but I need to return this one before they will order the new one. My concern is that the next amp (for some reason) might not be as good as the one I have now. I dont know why Im thinking this...maybe its paranoia haha. But Ive read some stories about inconsistencies from amp to amp. I will most likely return this one, just looking for opinions. Thanks!

To ask a stupid question- Do you have it switched on from the footswitch? Just turning the knob won't do it.

After that, yeah, the tube is the most likely culprit. Contact Egnater if that is it. They warranty the tubes for 90 days.

Yes I have it switched on from the footswitch. If the reverb tube is glowing normally like all the others, could it be the tube? How would I test this?

I think yeah, it could be. Pop a new tube in is the only way to really check it. If it is bad Eggie will send a new one. I have had one or two funky reverb tubes on my Tourmaster.

Make sure the tube is firmly seated in there. Those little mothers can come loose!

One more remote possibility- Are you sure the footswitch is communicating with the amp. When you step on the footswitch does the light on the amp go on? If not it is possible that the reverb is not on. That would be a faulty footswitch or MIDI cable.

I don't think this is worth getting rid of the whole amp over. If the tube doesn't do it- and I bet it will- call Egnater. I'm betting this is a relatively simple fix.

Well I swapped the tube...still no luck. The footswitch works perfectly so its not that. Everything inside the amp looks solid, no tubes or wires loose. I emailed Eganter and they suggested the tube swap as well.

I'd still get back in touch with Egnater. If you like this one let them repair it. Dealing with Guitar center is useless, unless they are willing to exchange it for another one right then and there.

Egnater can likely give you a local repair guy that can handle it under warranty. They did that for me on a similar issue.

I can assuage one other thing for you. When I was shopping for amps, I tried 3 or 4 Tourmasters combos and I thought they all sounded great- Very consistent to my ears. If GC says "Just bring it in and we will give you a new one" I don't think you need to worry about quality. I ocassionally plug into a new one just to check it against mine and they sound just as good to me. If they say they have to order another one, screw them in my opinion. I wouldn't do it, and I would complain to Egnater about- It is not very respectful to you the customer.

Len...Its good to know that you have found the amps to be consistent. The problem with the guitar centers here (and theres 3 of em in my area) is that they only have the floor model. And Ive seen what floor models go through. Alot of times they are running without a cabinet connected etc etc. Thats why I had them order a new one in a box for me. They will exchange it for another, but they want me to return this one before they order another new one in a box.

Bruce...I have been in contact with Nate regarding this issue. He made a few suggestions which I tried. He also said he might be able to find an authorized repair guy in my area. Im in fort lauderdale florida. Please let me know what I can do.

Thanks guys!!

It seems a little strange that they have them all out on display, but whatever.

If you like this, and are willing to give it a little time, I'd still hold out on the repair route. Mine has needed a few minor repairs and Egnater has come though for me, although I did have to rattle the cages once or twice.

  :D

If you wanted to return it (I still say get the one you like fixed) GC would probably give you a loaner until the new one came. Maybe not a Tourmaster, but something.

It's worth asking anyway!

Has Nate gotten back to you? If none of the normal suggestions (tbues, etc.) fixed it, tell him I suspect the pan may be damaged. Has he told you where you can take it for repair yet?
