So lookie what I got here...
diezelvh4_1.JPG

So I had a couple of questions about it.

1st off...
Peter, what can you tell me about this? What year is this amp?
diezelvh4_2.JPG

According to the guy I got it from, he said there was an issue with it in the past that you had taken care of. But he was the drummer in the his band, and said he didn't really remember what the problem was.
any ideas?

It also had an interesting tube selection, and I was wondering if this was normal back when this amp was made, or if these are replacements or...
I don't know the tube layout (which is v-1, v2, etc...)
Sovtek 5881's,
diezeltubes2.jpg

mostly Tad's in the preamp section...

Then there was a mesa chinese 12ax7,
and this tube, that just said HG, that I'm assuming is ruby?

Then there were also some TAD things inside the front of the amp i was wondering about.
what are these?

Thanks!

I am sure Papa will be along soon, but it's a 2007 VH4 and those black TAD things are 50uf/50uf 500V filter capacitors
for the high voltage supply.

Congrats !!!!

Goooooooaaaaaaaallllllllll!!!!!

ya know...this would have happened a lot sooner had you not beaten me to it last year.

I'm still pissed at you for that craigslist beat to the punch.
:gethim:

however, if you ever want to hear what the Herbert and VH4 sound like together, and feel like driving the 5 minutes down the street, let me know
:D

So does this mean this particular amp may have the higher Gain or newer wiring or whatever it was?

Yes, it's a fire breathing mother trucker with all the new bells, whistles and switchable beheading.

to me, gain past 1oclock on ch.3 is too much.

so from what i understand, this sounds like the updated amp.

So we won't be swapping then?

Splawn Nitro, here I come!!

Congrats on the score--when we did Ampfest 2010 I thought the VH4/Herbert combo was among the best tones, but my VH4 is a 2006, so I can only imagine what your 2007 sounds like.

CLIPS!!!

Well, the guy advertised it as a 2008. So i decided to go for it with the hope it would be a more updated amp, newer, etc.
it's looking like it's more an '07, and perhaps the guy bought it in '08?

I think it does sound slightly different than your vh4. I feel like it has a tiny bit more gain. keep in mind i have more time to play with it here on my own, but I might be selling the Herbert when the need for $$ arises, as I think the VH4 is more my style. We'll see what happens. For the moment, it will be fun/interesting to have them both here. Also keep in mind that I have different tubes in there than you have, so that makes a total difference as well, I would imagine.

btw, Email me about the band thing will ye.

I think I know that amp... I think it may have been through my studio. Did you buy it from a cat with the email initials G.L.???

Lemme know. I can tell you a lot about that amp.

V.

Kinda confused about one thing here...

Fuses.

When I got this amp, the guy handed me some extra fuses he said he had for the amp.

I took a look at them yesterday and they were 4a slo

I was looking in the manual for the vh4 i downloaded, and it said 110 (which is the USA, correct??) should be 8a, and 220 is 4a.

so...

the amp works fine, i haven't checked to see whats in there, but which is correct?

5 X 20 MM 4 Amp SLO BLO. It's marked on the back by the power cord as 120V / 4 AT, or Amperage Träge which in English basically means delay action fuse or SLO BLO.

ok. then the manual seems incorrect on this then.

thanks

Still waiting for Painting Peter's input on this amp.

Looks like I'm having some issues with my Mark V, (took a bias rite to it yesterday and got some very strange results...plate voltage was ok, pretty off but in the ballpark, but the idle current was reading "0" or negative numbers on one side, which seems highly incorrent), so i suppose the VH4 will be my main amp for awhile to use with the band.

Might also use the Herbert together as well.
Should be fun.

Peter, is there any info you can give me on this amp?

I haven't heard from you yet.

thanks!

Congrats on the buy! Just got my VH4 working again tonigh after a few months of being powertubeless. Fuuuuucccckkkk - I've missed it.

Enjoy!
