So I just purchased a new VH4 two weeks ago. What an amazing amp!

I had a chance to compare both the Herbert and the VH4. The Herbert was great as well. I thought the Herbert's mid-cut was perfect for brutal metal tone, and I also felt it had a little better clean tone than the VH4, maybe because of the higher wattage (headroom). I'm a classic/hard rock type of player, and Herbert's channel 2 is where I'd spend most of my time. The +/- switch really gives that channel a great range of gain. The VH4's channels 2 and 3 cover this same gain range, and for me, having two separate midi-switchable channels with separate EQs gives me two toally independent tones in this gain range, which is most important for me. I'm a Marshall type guy, a big fan of that crunch. The VH4 covered that beautifully on channel 2, while providing great clean and high gain tones on the other channels, which are tones I couldn't get from my previous amp. I'd have been happy with either Hberbert or VH4, but the VH4 fits me better. I'm using a PRS custom 24 with it, and between the guitar and amp the range of tonal possibilities is just amazing. Bravo Peter!

Now my quick foot controller question... I'd like to find one that can toggle between programs by pressing the same switch, so that I could switch from rhythm to lead and back without moving my foot. Anyone know of some simple foot controller that'll do that? Thanks in advance!

Congrats for the new baby!
These were the reasons I bought VH4 too (although there was no Herbert then).
There are midi controllers that can go up and down between programs or the traditional ones that you control each channel on an assigned bank (0-127) but no such thing as you mention.
VH4 works like this you assign a specific channel to a number from 0 to 128 controlled via the midi footswitch. Let's say that you assign channel 3 on bank 120 and channel 4 on bank 121. You cannot assign both channels on the same bank. It's just MIDI principles.

Thanks for the congrats.

For the foot controller, maybe I can explain what I'm looking for a little better... I'd like a controller where when you press a button a second time, it selects a different program, and then when you press it again, it selects the original program. The new Voodoo Lab Commander is an example, where one press issues program change 1, the next press issues program change 6 (as if you'd also pressed a Bank Up switch), the next press issues program change 1 (as if you'd pressed Bank Down). So if program 1 were VH4 channel 2 (rhythm) and program 6 were VH4 channel 4 (lead), you cold toggle between rhythm and lead by pressing that single switch. The Voodoo Lab Commander is just being released and is over $200, so I was wondering if there's a more established and/or cheaper option that does the same thing. Thanks!

One way to achieve this is a 'Global Preset'; my Axess MFC-5 works this way so that when you press any preset a second time it returns to the global preset (I have set to my main dry rhythm sound).

Congrats on your VH4!!

I'm playing my VH4 with the Boss FC50 (Roland GFC-50)

You could switch between 2 channels with one pedal.
Example: You use channel 2 for rythm and 3 for lead. So you program rythm on lets say 2, and lead on 7.
With the A/B switch at the right on the floorboard you can switch between 2 and 7.

Thanks Madhouse. I hope You will be satisfied for
a long period. Please visit us if You have further
questions.

Peter, you're welcome!

KillDivision, thanks for the post! The GFC-50 is exactly what I was looking for.
