So I just purchased a new VH4 two weeks ago. What an amazing amp!
I had a chance to compare both the Herbert and the VH4. The Herbert was great as well. I thought the Herbert's mid-cut was perfect for brutal metal tone, and I also felt it had a little better clean tone than the VH4, maybe because of the higher wattage (headroom). I'm a classic/hard rock type of player, and Herbert's channel 2 is where I'd spend most of my time. The +/- switch really gives that channel a great range of gain. The VH4's channels 2 and 3 cover this same gain range, and for me, having two separate midi-switchable channels with separate EQs gives me two toally independent tones in this gain range, which is most important for me. I'm a Marshall type guy, a big fan of that crunch. The VH4 covered that beautifully on channel 2, while providing great clean and high gain tones on the other channels, which are tones I couldn't get from my previous amp. I'd have been happy with either Hberbert or VH4, but the VH4 fits me better. I'm using a PRS custom 24 with it, and between the guitar and amp the range of tonal possibilities is just amazing. Bravo Peter!

Now my quick foot controller question... I'd like to find one that can toggle between programs by pressing the same switch, so that I could switch from rhythm to lead and back without moving my foot. Anyone know of some simple foot controller that'll do that? Thanks in advance!
