I’ve been looking to add a really good Fender Strat for a while. I’ve also had a hunkering for older 80’s guitars. I’ve never owned an Yngwie model and came across what looked liked would fit all three.

USA Fender Yngwie Stratocaster in Sonic Blue. Purchased from Ishibashi Music in Japan. Paid last Wednesday, arrived today (Monday), pretty cool considering tracking showed it arrived to Atlanta Friday and sat until delivery today.
The ad says it’s a 1991, but when I look up the serial number it says it’s a 1989.
The neck is amazing, super dark tint, no dings that I can find, straight. The body has a couple small dings but excellent considering it’s a 34 year old guitar.

Played it about an hour today after work. Definitely needs a setup, strings are crazy high. But I always set my own shit up regardless so that’s not too bad.

Beautiful! I picked up a pre signature MiJ YJM and it's a nice guitar. How much did you get yours for? That sonic blue is rare so it is a nice score.

BTW, I also found the strings high too. You have to string these with 8's or the string sits even higher in nut. The saddle screws are also long so they pop up a bit too much. That's my major gripe.

214,200 yen, which is about $1,620, but then about $260 shipping. No tax however. All in for about $1,880 which I thought was a pretty good deal for the rare color, age and great shape it’s in.

LOVE it! Always wanted that blue.

Back in 2013 I really wanted the signature but saw a 72' Reissue MIJ cream strat cheap and imported it from Japan. Slapped in some YJMs and the signature pots. Rather than scalloping I put on a mega jumbo fretwire on it which I did just after this photo. I call it my "Syngnature"

How do you find the scalloped board? It's taken me a while ... awesome vibrato but doing legato I feel as if I literally drag sometimes getting in the rut of the scallop.

Congrats! That YJM Strat looks amazing! I bought my first YJM Strat 1.5 years ago and my Gibsons and Ibanez’ have been sitting in their cases since then. I wish Fender would bring sonic blue and especially candy apple red as available colors for the regular USA YJM models. I would buy the CAR immediately… Together with DOD YJM308 or Fender YJM OD the guitar sounds fantastic.

I did a quick setup on it last night, but couldn’t get the strings adjusted as they buzz out. But I did get them a little lower. Will have to spend more time, maybe need some fret work to even it out because the neck seems straight. I may try to get it plecked.

The scallop feels good, I can tell a difference but not too much. It is a little easier to dig in and bend and get some good vibrato going. I’m digging it.

Killer guitar, love the blue! It's practically old wood now! Does that have the Dimarzio HS-2s and HS-3?

It was changed up a little from the original. It has an HS3 in the bridge and middle with an HS4 in the neck.

I tried a scalloped fretboard and my left hand is heavy handed, so I can't play one 🥺

Yeah, I catch myself on chords sometimes having to back off on the pressure or else it goes all over the place. Yngwie has a really light fluid touch unless he digs in for some of that vibrato. A very unique and special player. Nobody quite has his picking hand. effortless

I absolutely love the regular fender headstock yngwie models and that Robin egg blue is sick. You just don’t see a lot of them compared to the vintage white.

Killer score dude. Those guitars will force your technique to improve and you’ll see it make you an even better player on non scalloped guitars.

If you ever sell it I call dibs!
