Interesting process for buying, but it arrived safely today. I found it on Digimart (a Japanese site that consolidates many stores online). I used ZenMarket to facilitate.
For those who may be interested in buying from Japan, here was the process, cost and timing:

  • Created an account on ZenMarket and pasted the URL of the Guitar from the Digimart site into zenmarkets search.
  • Zenmarket verifies the guitar is still available and the price. Took about 30 minutes.
  • Once verified, I purchased the guitar through ZenMarket in Yen.
    • I paid Zenmarket and ZenMarket paid the store.
    • I used Apple Pay.
  • After about 5 days I get a notice that ZenMarket (based in Osaka Japan) received the guitar.
    • They gave several shipping options and I chose EMS.
    • The shipping cost was 20,000 Yen or roughly $130 US.
  • They packed it well, insured it and shipped it off, which took them about 4 or 5 days to do.
  • It arrived today
  • ZenMarket charges a flat rate of 500 yen (about $3.26) to do this, no matter what the size or cost of the item you buy. There's no markup or percentage fee on the guitar, you pay whatever the cost was from Digimart.
  • Full timeline - I bought the guitar on January 9, it arrived January 30.
    • The biggest benefit, with the Yen exchange rate right now, I paid $1100 for this guitar and $130 shipping. It goes for ~$2,000-$2500 used and over $3k new in the US.

So here it is. I love natural Mahogany guitars and this one is a beauty. Looks like a 1 piece mahogany body, almost new, only a few rashes on the back. Plays and feels great.

Goddamn, thanks for sharing.

I paid over 2200 used and before covid for a Caparison with zero disappointment. This is a steal, thanks for sharing.
Even the new prices are several hundreds cheaper than the new ones in the US. The new Caparison models on Digimaert are about $2,700 with current yen rate and $3499 everywhere in the US.

I haven't checked others, but made in Japan guitars are definitely good deals there.

Also, I don't know if Customs randomly checked or what, but I paid no taxes or import customs fees either. It just came straight on through.

Either way, if and when I'm able to get a 6 string. I had planned on buying a zircote svss. $850 or so but now that I know about this website, id much rather pay an extra 500 for a Caparison
