Well, it's new anymore but whatevs.
I picked up this barely used late 2023 Choppa S about a month ago off Reverb, and it's my first experience with Luxxtone- and I'm impressed.
Quick specs:
Alder body
Old School/ Hippy Whip pickups
Vintage C neck carve, 10-16 radius
Master volume, master tone, and blend control for bridge/ neck
I've owned a few Suhrs and have an Anderson drop top, and this is definitely on the same level, but with a WAY different vibe. Think old school Charvel or a hot rodded strat with some modern specs.
Overall I love it!
I've played two gigs with it and found it's a SUPER versatile guitar. Rock, funk, modern country, dance- no sweat. Pick the right pickup, dial the gain up or down, and you're good to go. Playbility is excellent, the neck carve is nice and full without being too much, and the fretwork is top shelf.
Sustain is really amazing and it has a a nice punch too. Definitely not a plinky sounding strat!
The real stars for me are the pickups. They sound absolutely perfect. The humbucker is full, balanced, with juuust the right amount of push. The singles are chimey, but fat sounding at the same time. Nothing is overly compressed and they respond beautifully.
I have to give a shout out to Luxxtone's customer service as well. I had an issue with the original bridge pickup, and Jerry was kind enough to swap me for a new one after some very helpful and prompt exchanges. I also ordered a tortoise pickguard for it, and that was a smooth process as well.
