Dammit, this is a strange feeling.....no gas

Been out ripping shit up with the Bogners. With the 20th XTC/20th Shiv and the Twin Jet - I am totally content

Aren't ya'll glad. After selling all the amps the past couple weeks, my PayPal is swelled up too. Shit......may be time for a new guitar :m17:

Steve

You feeling ok Steve?
You been one of my Inspirations for GAS.... :D

Its a passing moment.....

Steve_K I know the feeling how Bogner can end the Gas, it just took the TJ for me, Brad got my 20th which is a great amp but the TJ covers everything I can throw out there from pop/country to insane metal. Some may not believe, but since tone is in the hands it has to be true.....

My gas right now is for a few Charvels to modify and have Mike Learn paint for me. Finalize my pedalboard which for the first time ever is simple and plugs straight into the amp.

Will be covering everything with the Church to full on Metal gigs with this, cannot ask for much more.

Now buy Brad's R8 so you can release some of those funds.... LOL

So whats the difference between a xtc101B and the Twin jet?
Sorry...I dont know anything about Bogners.
I been reading up on them here...but for rock/metal I hear mixed opinions.
Sounds like I would dig the Twin Jet more.....but who knows? :dunno:

Danno,

Just like any loaded question you will get many different answers. I have always loved the Bogner voicing per se, it is special in the way Diezel has a specific voicing, however they are very different from each other.

The 101b and 20th 101b are very good 3 channel amps, from clean to rock to hard rock and the blue channel and the plexi mode is all very good.

My why to liking the twin jet more is as follows, and it is these very reasons I no longer have any amp gas finally:

1) The TJ has the bogner voicing but is more in your face and raw than the 101 series.
2) The TJ channel 1 has all the rock and hard rock you could want, and cleans up well with the volume knob, also more open and less compressed to me than a 101 series. Has some serious spank and just is a great amp stopping there.
3) Channel 2 is what the red channel should be on the 101 to me, however then the uber would not be needed. It can get to the anals of very heavy modern rock, but also can just be a great extension of channel 1 with a slight more gain and boosted tonal options.

The Twin Jet has a Marshall grind to it with EL34's that can cover anything out there for me. It comes down to finding the amp that fits you, I have always loved Bogners from the Classic, 101b, 20th and Fish I had, but the Twin Jet is the perfect Bogner for me. Second in line is the fish then the 20th. However I have not played a Shiva or the others so I can not comment any further.

Ventura is loving his 20th and it slays for him like the TJ does for me, Steve_K has both and a Shiva and I think he has some bases pretty covered and it shows in all he is selling. Bogner voicing is special, some do not like it, but for me it records well, cuts in a mix, sounds amazing and is all I could ask for in my amp!

aw shit. no sooner than i posted, brad decided to have a clearance sale....

The 101b is very smooth, has a thick low midrange and is really good for legato playing...it is quite dark and compressed, which is a bit why some people are polarized by it. The Twin Jet is the most 3D Rectifier meets Marshall JCM 800 you've ever heard. Just huge and cuts better and is more open than past revisions.

The 20th XTC is absolute perfection...just about does it all and excels no matter what setting...whereas the older XTC's required a lot more tweaking. The 20th XTC nails the idealized sound I've always had in my head. I've owned a Fish, 101b and have a TJ. The TJ is a close 2nd for me and the Fish has a cool liquid gain going on.

Steve's got me gassing for a 20th Shiva, though...fuckin' guy... :gethim:

Payback's a bitch Zack

Just had another romp on the 20XTC. It is hands down the best amp around to cover it all, to me anyway.

Zach, Steve_K, Gary, Brad, and the list goes on and on to ensure the GAS never stops. I am researching any LLC's for gear kickbacks that has been formed by any one or all of you together. I have suffered much from the likes of you all, but I guess in the end the gratification although not always instant is better than the pains you have caused.

Congrats Steve for the new amps!!!.
The XTC 20th, Shiva 20th and Twin Jet together cover LOTS OF GROUND for sure!!!
Cheers,
Oz

Thanks for the answer guys!!
That Twin Jet sounds VERY INTERESTING.... ;)

It is a great head. Fuckin weirdest EQ I have ever touched. Even the bass control affects the volume. Treble cuts to the right and then adds toward the end of the pot-adds mids to the left. I havn't figured it completely yet, but I dialed in a killer tone quickly. The amp has awesome mids, a perfect compression. The gain is clean and tight. I can see myself loving this amp after I get her panties off.

Do you have the KT88's in it or did you mod it for the EL34's?

I pulled the Sovteks for a new quad of Gold Lion 88's. I have a quad of EL34 coming, but I am thinking to keep the 88"S in and give them some time to break in and soften. I remember from using these in the past, they hit a point where they soften up and sound allot better from new. Huge sounding amp for sure. It's not compressed for as much gain is on tap which I like. It's almost as bad as a Mark IV with the controls, but hell I dialed ina IV pretty quickly also. I would really like to know how the EQ circuit is wired. I am thinking their is active parts too it. The trble is more of a cut control but not quite so. It would be helpfull to understand exactly how the controls interact regardless that I dial with my ear.

I just never got into the KT-88's in the past. They are just so damn POWERFUL!!  ALmost comes across as BOOMY on the amps I had in the past.
I might have to add the Twin jet to the "Must check out" list....

The KT88's in the TJ are not boomy at all, the amp really carries a lot of gain without muddiness to me. The tonal options are freaking weird and what Gary said above is so very true about cuts, and volume changes when you touch anything EQ, more so on Channel 2. However the EL34's actually helped a bit with the EQ being so frantic, still is just not as much.

Dan if you like an amp that can has a very uncompressed gain tone, that has beautiful mids that will cut in the mix and still have a darkness to them, just enough saturation to get you hard and will cover any genre with some tweaks and cover it well IMHO this is an amp you should try out.

The TJ coveres my XTC 20th gas for me, only because I am not as vintage of a player as some of these guys. But the TJ will do some nice Hendrix on Channel 1, add a little fuzz with the clean breakup, some vibe and a wah and you would be changing your panties I promise you, well if you were wearing any!!
