Steve_K I know the feeling how Bogner can end the Gas, it just took the TJ for me, Brad got my 20th which is a great amp but the TJ covers everything I can throw out there from pop/country to insane metal. Some may not believe, but since tone is in the hands it has to be true.....
My gas right now is for a few Charvels to modify and have Mike Learn paint for me. Finalize my pedalboard which for the first time ever is simple and plugs straight into the amp.
Will be covering everything with the Church to full on Metal gigs with this, cannot ask for much more.
Now buy Brad's R8 so you can release some of those funds.... LOL
So whats the difference between a xtc101B and the Twin jet?
Sorry...I dont know anything about Bogners.
I been reading up on them here...but for rock/metal I hear mixed opinions.
Sounds like I would dig the Twin Jet more.....but who knows?
Danno,
Just like any loaded question you will get many different answers. I have always loved the Bogner voicing per se, it is special in the way Diezel has a specific voicing, however they are very different from each other.
The 101b and 20th 101b are very good 3 channel amps, from clean to rock to hard rock and the blue channel and the plexi mode is all very good.
My why to liking the twin jet more is as follows, and it is these very reasons I no longer have any amp gas finally:
1) The TJ has the bogner voicing but is more in your face and raw than the 101 series.
2) The TJ channel 1 has all the rock and hard rock you could want, and cleans up well with the volume knob, also more open and less compressed to me than a 101 series. Has some serious spank and just is a great amp stopping there.
3) Channel 2 is what the red channel should be on the 101 to me, however then the uber would not be needed. It can get to the anals of very heavy modern rock, but also can just be a great extension of channel 1 with a slight more gain and boosted tonal options.
The Twin Jet has a Marshall grind to it with EL34's that can cover anything out there for me. It comes down to finding the amp that fits you, I have always loved Bogners from the Classic, 101b, 20th and Fish I had, but the Twin Jet is the perfect Bogner for me. Second in line is the fish then the 20th. However I have not played a Shiva or the others so I can not comment any further.
Ventura is loving his 20th and it slays for him like the TJ does for me, Steve_K has both and a Shiva and I think he has some bases pretty covered and it shows in all he is selling. Bogner voicing is special, some do not like it, but for me it records well, cuts in a mix, sounds amazing and is all I could ask for in my amp!
