No output on Renegade distorted channel

Egnater Renegade head, purchased in July 2010. Problem came up last week. Clean channel works perfect. Distored Channel...no output at playing level. If I turn up the gain, volume and main 1 and 2 all the way, I can hear a very, very faint distored signal through the cab. Changed all preamp and power amp tubes. Matched pairs for the EL34 and 6L6's. Tubes solidly in place. I know the power tubes are fine because I get perfect output on clean channel. I know the preamp tubes are fine because I do hear distortion in that very, very faint output when I fully crank up all volume and gain controls on the distored channel. It's clearly an output problem on the distorted channel only. I've owned tube amps for thirty year and usually my output problem would affect both clean and distorted channels. Any opinions before I send this amp off for two weeks. I'm a gigging professional and while I certainly have other amps, I'm really fond of using this Renegade. Anyone seen this problem before? Thanks

Are you making sure to play it with nothing in the loop? This sounds almost like not having the loop set up properly. Weird.

Go here for the tube chart. If the problem is a tube, it will be V3 or V4. Also, FYI if you do have a problem with an amp (any amp) that is isolated to one channel, the power tubes will not be the cause. The power amp section (powertubes and PI tube) are common to all channels so a failure there will not cause only one channel to malfunction. Please report back.

Bruce, thanks for the chart. I changed out V3 and V4 with tubes I know for certain are good (I always keep good tubes on hand because I work my amps a lot). Same problem. Strong output on clean channel. Next to no output on channel 2 with all gain and volume controls cranked full. Nothing in the effects loop. I've never seen this before

Hey,
So my band had our first show tonight and I was pumped to use my new renegade 1x12. We went on and poof, no output. I had a similar issue in that if I cranked the channel up I could hear a very faint signal coming through. Tubes were glowing, channels were selecting properly...I was baffled, and pissed as you can imagine.
I came home and did a little snooping around and decided to check that 1/4 inch cable that connects the amp to the speaker. I unscrewed the little flat casing for it only to find that the red wire had come un-soldered from its contact point. I resoldered it and everything worked just dandy again.
I would check that before you do anything else. I assume mine got messed up sometime in transport, so I'm going to be taking extra precautions now to protect it. Hope this info helps!

This is exactly what my Renegade is doing. It does it if I set both Tube Mix pots to the right or the left. I'm supposed to be getting some tubes from Nate at Egnater.I'm gonna be seriously bummed if I can't use my Renegade at next week's gig.

Hey Bruce,

Awesome That you reply so fast! This weekend il buy some pre amp tubes! Is there any need That the replacement tubes need to be from the same Brand?

Il report back when tubes are replaced!

Thanks again from the netherlands

They don't have to be the same brand. Any 12AX7 will do. Might do a little research since different tubes sound different. Plenty of discussion of that on the board here.

Plug your guitar into the FX Loop Return, turn the Master Volumes down.......it will be loud, you will then by-pass the pre amp tubes and go strait into the power amp. If you have a power tube problem the fault will still be present, if you get full volume it will tell you one of your pre amp tubes has the fault. Channel 1 uses tubes V1 and V2 only, Channel 2 uses all V1,V2,V3,V4 tubes, as your Channel 1 is OK it can not be V1 or V2 and it also clears V5 and V6, that just leaves V3 or V4. Or It could be Karma....valve amps are very sensitive and they know when you've been talking shit about them, they have the power to kill you, they can be real asshole's. My Bettie wears rosary beads to calm her ass down.....yes she has a name and so far she seems to think I'm OK even when I'm nasty with her.....lol. I'm sure you just have a bad tube dude.

Haha Thanks for the reply guys! I will check everything out! Ik reply back
