It’s also bizzare with how many dudes that beat off to the constitution will be totally cool with it.
It only strengthens my resolve that they only care about losing freedoms that are important to themselves, and not the actual idea of freedom

it is abnormal. Have you ever had to upload a copy of your ID to do anything online before?
Yeah, buy ammo. That's abnormal cause like porn or cigs unless you look like a kid they don't ask for any ID down at Academy or Cabelas.

i don’t think I’ve ever not been asked for id for cigs

You live in Mass though, they are more anti cig than the southern US. I haven't been asked for an ID for cigs or cigars in probably 10 or more years. Sorry if I'm a little cantankerous this morning Daniel. I did some heavy lifting this week and aggravated an old back injury and am in a lotta pain this a.m I hope you and your family are well today.

I’ll be working most of the weekend but the sun is shining so it’s a good day.
I just see a ruling like this going 2 ways; all adult material needs proof of age to consume, right down to everyone’s favorite tv MA shows on cable, or it will simply be an attack on pornography.

With the whole world on fire right now, is PornHub really a headline?

I could see it going the way you suggested that way they can basically control and ID everyone using the net. Maybe porn will give them their excuse. I would like to see pornography and smut shops etc go back to being shut down by the vice squads that way no ID is needed because there isn't any of those things. I hope your workday goes smoothly and quickly Daniel.

Ken Paxton has been cleaning house on a number of issues in TX the past few years so yes, it's news here. But I def get your point.

Porn companies are not "Showing" porn to kids. Kids are on devices given to them by their school or parents, using internet access provided by the same, using such to look up porn on their own.
Exactly, and...

Remember when sex shops were the only source of porn back in the day? "Adults Only" signs and door tassels strongly signalled what lay within. If you felt you looked old-enough and were brave-enough, you could walk right in. Porn sites generally require that you confirm that you're 18 or over by ticking a box. This is no different from acquiring a fake ID back in the day that said you were 18, something many did in order to be able to go to nightclubs, buy booze (21 in the States) and gain access to porn.

During pre-internet times there was no hard-and-fast method employed to restrict underaged access. IMHO the only reason this is being pushed now (being discussed in Oz too) is one of control / privacy invasion.

Practically-speaking, of the billions (yes, billions) who view porn, I wonder what proportion will abstain rather than reveal its identity. I'm betting the majority. This will make those opposed to porn happy, but those billions... that's a whole lotta clicks and revenue down the drain so it'll be interesting to see how this pans out.

I suspect most will see it for what it is - a further encroachment of privacy. Surfing porn is just about the most-private thing you can do on the intermanet and I respect folks' right to privacy (just like free speech), and like free speech, it's the principle that counts. What peeps' beliefs are (free speech) and their views on porn are entirely up to them and none of my business... or the gubment's for that matter. IMHO.

The OP doesn’t want to use his I.D. Must really suck when porn is your only avenue to see some tang (or cock). 🤣

Perhaps, except right now this is a state level deal, not federal, and I don't see a lot of more left leaning states acquiescing to it.

As for those claiming this is some kind 1st amendment issue or something, well, it was illegal before, and should be illegal again. It's a destructive force in society. A free society doesn't allow things that enslave people.

... like junk food, tobacco, booze, gym / exercise addictions, shopping addictions, hoarding, collectoritis (teddy bears, cars... anything), gambling... etc.?

All addictions are "enslaving" to one degree or another.

A free society actually allows peeps to make mistakes / FAFO; the "definition" you wrote, by-extrapolation, results in a micromanaged, cotton-wool society. Not one the vast majority of peeps would want to be a part of.

For sure the powers that be want the internet de-anonymized as much as possible. As for porn, I think it's debatable. It's hard to know that excessive porn consumption is a cause rather than symptom. I personally don't generally view it negatively and enjoy it myself. But I also know it can be a problem for people (Like sex itself), and I suspect it can distort peoples' minds about sex and relationships, especially for kids. Either way I think people should be able to decide these things for themselves.

So explain how society is better with easy access to porn and especially explain to me how it was less free and micromanaged when the vice squads busted up porn rings and brothels. It was more free in the past than it is today and you have your "freedom" to watch filth at the click of a mouse.

I knew you'd say that 'cause I understand your POV brother.

I simply don't believe in the clamping-down-on-everything approach; it's a slippery slope towards dictatorship.

If junk food, tobacco, booze, gambling and "drugs" were all bant there'd be heavy-duty black markets for all of them.

Easier to keep everything "in plain sight" / legal. It's up to individuals to resist or temper their "appetites"; it's part of the journey of life - learning to exercise self-control.

Additional to this:
Far easier to implement rehabilitation programs for the above if they're legal.

I thought demoncrats make their own pron?
