I need a good noisegate because of my Strat :) I want so put it between the guitar and the amp and not in the loop so that the noises of the guitar are killed before they are amplified (especially in the gain channels). Does this make sence or is it better in the loop? And of course what noisegates du you use? Do the kill the sound? Thanks for your help! Roggenrool

A noisegate in front of the amp will kill guitar noise, and a tiny bit of amp noise.
In the loop it'll take care of amp noise but won't help with guitar noise so much.

For your Strat I really recommended an ISP decimator PEDAL in front of the amp. It won't degrade your tone at all.

Is there a specail reason why? You can send me a pm in german so it`s more easy to understand for me ;)

isp g string or

use what i have

isp prorack g decimator.

best noise reduction unit out there period.

i have used em all

and this is the most transparent.

i use the steroe version on my egnater mod100 and diezel herbert.

flawless!

Do you use it in front or in the loop? Im looking to get one too. I currently use a boss noise gate in front of my amp. Id like to have one in my pedalboard to replace my boss. The Diezel isnt very noisy. However, my Tube screamer and compressor are.
Thanks

Not only will it kill noise, you will lose some of the awesome feedback capabilities, sustain and tone. If it were me, I would find other ways to kill the noise (cables, connections, shielding, ground loops, limit noisy pedals running in front of the amp, signal flow).

ISP Decimator ProRack G. It goes both in front of the amp and in the loop. It is completely transparent and tunable, and I've had no problem getting in getting feedback when I want it. The noise gate analyzes noise both before the amp and in the loop and uses that information to judge whether or not it should engage. When not engaged it's totally transparent. When it is engaged it is 100% silent.

On my setup most of the noise is killed by the portion in the loop (you can turn each section on/off independently with the ProRack G), so you should definitely have something in the loop, not just a pedal in front of the amp. But the ProRack G is really the best solution because by having a portion in front of the amp it can use your guitar's signal directly to judge whether or not it should engage the loop portion. That's important because if you just put a noise gate in the loop it would have a much tougher time distinguishing whether the level it senses is caused by noise or is good guitar signal.

Long story short, you won't be sorry with this choice. Highly recommended!

Iam also looking at a Isp pro rack g for my herbert
cause i do use single coil strat's. So with your guys
experience the pro rack g doesnt kill my tone. right now
iam directly into my herbert and i have a few pedals i run
the switchable loop. any imput would be awsome guys

for all those who have asked.

you can dial it in to still get feedback.

yes, it is preferable to kill the noise with proper cables and shielding and grounding, but the fact of the matter is sometimes with high gain heads you will stilll have noise.

and if you actually gig, you will encounter really bad power that even a two furman units couldnt kill the noise.

i added the isp to the rack and have wont ever go back.

i think i will go play it right now.

you would plug the guitar into the isp then into the front of your amp

then you would plug in your serial loop into the back of the isp.

fiddle for a few minutes and you are done.

For me the ISP Pro Rack G is an absolute must. Trust me, I've tried every other solution possible to eliminate noise and while other things may help a little this unit completely fixes even a god awful noise situation.

It won't kill your tone. Just set the filter tuning knob so that it kills the noise but doesn't roll off the high end. The sweet spot is pretty large, so it's easy to set. In fact, I'd say this improves your tone because it also helps filter out some of the noise even while you're playing, so it makes it easier to hear what you want to hear.

absolutely +1
the best you can buy - i use it with my herbert.
it is so quiet you think the amp is off

OK. I stand corrected  . Glad there is a product around if needed. The only one I ever used was a Rocktron Hush with my Mesa DR and I thought it was the biggest piece of shit on the market.

Steve

thats because the Rocktron Hush IS the biggest piece of shit ever! :D

i used to use a Boss NS-2, but it was sucking sustain and killed a little low-end - switched to ISP Decimator PEdal a few month ago, i'm totally happy - altough tis sweet spot is a little hard to find, especcially during bad stage-light conditions.

Hi guys,

and what ebout DBX 166 XL or DBX 266 XL. It is cheaper than ISP Pro G and I saw it in Johns Petrucci rack. He used 266 XL and than 166 XL. It have compressor too..and in Johns rig, there a saw no other noisgate...
Have you any experiences with this unts. I know Metallica uses DBX 1074 in rack.
Can any of you compare these units to ISP Pro.. I am interested in 166 XL or 266 XL, because 1074 don´t have common jacks inputs and outputs..but only that analog ones, or how do they name :)

Thanks a lot

Du bekommst damit auch eventuelle Nebengeräusche vom
Amp mit in den Griff.
